Report: Raiders Unlikely To Interview Notre Dame DC

The Raiders are still looking for a defensive coordinator. The next stop in their search will be an interview on Sunday with a mystery college coach – a report that’s stirred plenty of speculation. But one candidate that appears to be off the short list is Notre Dame defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder.

According to Tom Loy, a Notre Dame insider for Irish247.com, Jack Del Rio has reached out to VanGorder, but it’s “very unlikely” that he’ll get an interview.

Just spoke to a trusted source closely connected to the Notre Dame program and he advised that its “very unlikely” Notre Dame defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder will interview, or has even been asked to interview, for the open defensive coordinator job with the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

Another note as it relates to the Raiders – Loy says he was told Del Rio is looking for “someone he has worked with before, someone who has coached as a coordinator at the college or pro level and someone with NFL experience.”

As for VanGorder, Loy believes there are “others higher on the (Raiders) board right now and a few much more likely to be considered.”
