Donald Penn Says Raiders Playing “On Edge” After Difficult Start

Everyone has a theory as to what’s gone wrong with the Raiders. Even the players are offering ideas.

Donald Penn took a page out of Aaron Rodgers’ psychological playbook this week and said the Raiders need to relax.

“We’re so uptight,” Penn told Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area. “We expected to have a different start these first five games. I think we need to take a deep breath and relax. We’re so on edge. We don’t want to make a mistake. We just want everything to be perfect and, in this game, it’s not going to be that way.

But why be “on edge” after starting the season 2-0 and leading the league in scoring after two games?

Whatever happened after the Jets game, the Raiders offense is only averaging 12.3 points per game since. The “edge” is something that obviously wasn’t around to start the season.

Sunday’s game against the Chargers will feel like the season is on the line for the Raiders. A loss would put Oakland at 2-4 with undefeated Kansas City coming to town on a short week. Only four teams in the Super Bowl era have made the playoffs after beginning the season with a 2-5 record.

Good luck trying to relax now.

  1. What happened was that our moron President (just ask Rex Tillerson) came out calling for the ‘sons of bitches’ to be fired. I think that distracted the team, threw it off enough that it came out flat against Washington. Now, they are just plain gripping, as Penn says, and that isn’t good for a team that still has a lousy defense!

    1. I think I partially agree with you. It shows with Coppers drops. And the ankle foot injuries to our 2 guards.

    2. Yeah, the “sons of bitches” comment didn’t seem to throw the Chiefs off track. If the Raiders’ psyche is that delicate then they’re getting what they deserve.

      1. Players play, coaches coach, fans be fans. With that said Penn and some of these Raiders would not make a pimple on the Raiders of 70’s-80’s butts. You got Paid Penn now perform and I challenge all NFL players to ride in the off season with Police to see what they go thru and spend a week in a soldiers shoes and you might just have some respect.

    3. No what happened was they players tried to disrespect our flag and anthem and their fans. The anthem and nation doesn’t hire police they hire military . You wanna protest police or racial equality go to the mayors office on your own time. It has NOTHING to do with the flag. Stand up or continue to sink cause most the team doesn’t even agree with it. It’s the PROTESTERS fault for this start. Pull your head out

  2. You are the moron. Blame Trump. The newest fad among losers who don’t want to accept responsibility for their own shortcomings. How about they get to work and focus on your job and good things will happen.

  3. the raiders players worried more about politics than the jobs they get paid to perform.

these clowns think their opinion matters….it doesn’t

you are an “employee” of the raiders and the nfl…you can fired (aka cut) just like a janitor, a cop, or a cashier can get fired.

watch your step raiders leave the politivs to the grown ups and worry about football and only football

  4. Norton has to go and del rio was a junk hire
If u can’t win with this offense u should be fired plain and simple
And cook has been a bust he heard footsteps in the end zone and fumbled on Sunday

  5. You practice all week and then come game time put the best team on the field get early scores work so hard to get points in the first quarter. I think the defense coordinator Norton need to have a talking to Give Pagano more say so!! despite the teams failure to bring in a middle linebacker Perry riley would be a start cause he could come right in and be excepted in the chemistry of the players. Its all about communication, executing fundimentals and having the focus of Khail Mack take no prisioners approach. The team later must get a nastier front four besides Mack and Irvin a bunch of mutants Remember John Matusack, Otis Sistrunk, Ted Hendricks, Howie Long, Lester hayse, These guys could fight all day and not get hurt. Just do the job your paid to do and work together for the common goal getting to the playoffs!!! In this league you must wrap up all over like the lineman keep injuries to a minimum…
