Jackson Powers-Johnson hasn’t found a lot of favor from the Raiders’ coaching staff in the last two months, but that storyline should soon be put to rest.
On Sunday, Powers-Johnson received the second-highest offensive game grade from Pro Football Focus (82.4), with only Dylan Parham (91.7) grading higher.
Last week, head coach Pete Carroll would only commit to Powers-Johnson in the starting lineup for another week, but it’s well beyond time to turn the page on that position battle.
Of all the issues the Raiders face right now, Powers-Johnson is one of only a few players on the team that should feel like their job isn’t in jeopardy.
After Sunday’s game, Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter said he doesn’t want to hear anything about Powers-Johnson losing his job while Geno Smith has been arguably the worst quarterback in the league.
“I don’t want to hear more about [Jackson Powers-Johnson], or he’s got a big head, or an ego, or whatever. Can we stop the insanity?” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.
“Locker rooms don’t lie. Don’t screw with JPJ and pretend like it’s a competition, and then crickets when it comes to [Geno Smith]? He’s got nine interceptions in five games. He leads the NFL… I like Geno. [He’s a] good guy. [He has] not been a good quarterback.”

Do head coaches suddenly suffer sacatterbrain syndrom when they come to the Raiders?
Good for You calling out these ancient – ego driven asswipe coaches. their assesments have been sketchy from the beginning. You are the Only Pundit calling for truth as the Other two Big Boys continued to Kiss the Azzes of their benefactors just like they did when McClown was the Coach (Broken Brick “Stop complaining – I Know the Plan and it is a Great One”) Don’t really Blame the Brick or Vinny the Bone for protecting their Paychecks instead of reporting the Truth for the dwindling Raider Faithful. This Organization has been and continues to be a Disaster. I am from a Time when (in OakTown) JT was Really at the top of his Game. I will add that Lincoln Kennedy seems top be filling the role of a Real Reporter. Good on You Lincoln… Mark kepts selling Chunks of the Team – why not Just sell the whole thing? Hopefully to a Wealthy Sportsman who Loves Football and The RAIDERS!!!!
Please get rid of this high school quarterback Geno Smith. He is by far worse than Jamarcus Russell.
Get rid of this please get rid of this high school quarterback Gino Smith. He is far worse than JaMarcus Russell ever was. And Pete Carroll as well.
Oh man, Hondo took a (perfectly reasonable) about at a current Raiders power broker. Break out the DP. Good for him! He’s right. If you were a player, how seriously can you take this old man talking about competition while protecting his guy’s?
The fans can see the real Pete Carrol now, he plays favorites, and sets a bad tone for the ones that are not in his inner circle.. it is obvious and blatant when at 1-4 he says Geno had a solid game. “what game was he watching??” I think the guys played hard, but doing what the defensive and offensive coordinators called sure made the entire team looked like a division III college at best trying to compete with a pro level team. This cannot be fixed overnight. I hope i’m wrong but i do not see this team advancing to a winning season. another 5 and 12 season!
