The Raiders are still looking for running backs. Reggie McKenzie balked at taking a running back in the draft, but plans to roll the dice on the once-promising career of 24 year-old Michael Dyer.
Dyer was no small part of the 2010-11 Auburn team that won the national championship. In fact, he was the MVP of the title game versus Oregon. Here’s a fourth-quarter run from that game you may remember…
Dyer posted consecutive 1,000-yard seasons at Auburn before transferring to Louisville with a short stint at Arkansas State in between. The reason for all the moves? An undisclosed team violation (led to transfer from Auburn) and a traffic citation that eventually linked him to possession of marijuana as well as a firearm (led to transfer from Arkansas State). He played two years at Louisville, but missed his final game (Belk Bowl) after being ruled academically ineligible.
Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino did not allow Dyer to attend Louisville’s pro day. He was forced to hold a private workout for scouts at a nearby high school.
Dyer will compete with Roy Helu Jr., Taiwan Jones, George Atkinson III, and Trent Richardson to compliment Latavius Murray in the Raiders backfield.
