“Who’s That?” Raiders ’25 Coach Didn’t Know Who Dylan Laube Was, Insider Says

On his Sports Illustrated podcast this week, Raiders insider Hondo Carpenter named three young offensive players he believes have made a strong impression in OTAs.

One of the players Carpenter listed was third year running back Dylan Laube, who is trying to make the roster as a former sixth-round pick under his third coaching staff.

Laube was on the roster bubble in each of his first two seasons and with the arrival of Klint Kubiak, the former New Hampshire running back faces another uphill climb to make the roster in 2026.

But according to Carpenter, Laube’s chances of making the team can’t be much worse than they were a year ago.

“Coming into year two, which would have been last year for him, I literally remember at a key point in the offseason, asking a coach what his thought was about Dylan and he asked me, ‘Who’s that?’” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.

“Now, if you’re a player and your coaches don’t know who you are, that’s not a good sign.”

Laube ended making the roster in 2025, but the fact that at least one coach didn’t know who he was at a “key point in the offseason” doesn’t reflect particularly well on last year’s coaching staff.

Carpenter says the new coaching staff has been impressed by Laube, and the special teams ace might be in line for a few different roles if he can make the team this year.

“[Laube] is a guy that when you talk to people in this facility and in the building at various levels, his name will come up. They’re impressed with him,” Carpenter said.

“So keep your eyes, keep your attention on Dylan Laube. I can’t wait to watch what he does in camp. I cannot wait to see what he does in camp, watch what he does in camp, especially with the pads on… because some of the roles that he’s doing, I think are very interesting.”

For what it’s worth, Caleb Rogers and Malik Benson were the other two players Carpenter mentioned as young players who have performed well at OTAs.

The closer we get to training camp; it’s sounding more and more like Rogers is close to taking the next step in his NFL career.

Several beat writers around the Raiders have brought attention to Rogers in the last two weeks, and it already seems like the second-year guard is finding the favor of Kubiak and the coaching staff.
