All Things Considered, Raiders Get Good News on Javin White Injury

After sustaining what looked like to be a significant injury to his knee on Saturday night, Javin White has received relatively good news on his injury status.

“They are both going to be out for a while,” Jon Gruden said on Wednesday on the timetable for White and Nicholas Morrow to return. “It looks like Morrow will be out a little bit longer than White. So, that’s unfortunate. But we’ll have to continue to develop our young linebackers and perhaps find another.”

Gruden did not give a timetable for White’s return, but the second-year linebacker did not tear his ACL. White’s outlook is a lot better than what the team had originally feared. Morrow, on the other hand, sounds like a long shot to be ready for the start of the season and his injury status is the one more likely to push the Raiders to signing another linebacker.

On Tuesday, it was reported that free agent linebacker K.J. Wright is believed to be looking for upwards of $7 million and as of right now it doesn’t seem like the Raiders have enough desperation to pay that kind of money for a 32 year-old linebacker.

The Raiders list their three starting linebackers as Tanner Muse, Nicholas Morrow, and Cory Littleton. White is listed as Littleton’s backup and Nick Kwiatkoski is listed as Morrow’s backup. It’s probably a safe bet that the Raiders will make a modest move to add a linebacker in the coming days… but nothing in the realm of $7 million per season.
