Former first-round pick Devin White is looking to resurrect his career with the Raiders, and based on reports from training camp, the 27 year-old former first-round pick has made a strong impression in his short time with the team.
White came to the Raiders in part because of his connection to former Buccaneers Assistant GM John Spytek, who is in his first season as General Manager of the Raiders.
Spytek has shown confidence in White, but it sounds like Spytek’s former boss in Tampa has lost all confidence in the player he once drafted fifth overall.
“Knowing what I know now, he would have been off my board,” Buccaneers GM Todd Licht told The Athletic’s Dan Pompei about White. “It was too much about him.”
“In hindsight, Licht believes he was fooled in 2019 when he chose linebacker Devin White in the first round,” Pompei continued. “White was a starter for the better part of five years for the Bucs but eventually was let go. He’s with his third team since.”
White talked last month about the “bad spot in life” he was in when his father wasn’t around, and admitted he “didn’t care about football” for a period of time in his career.
White’s father unexpectedly passed away in 2022 and the Super Bowl winning linebacker said he has changed his life in the years since.

That’s the best thing for him and the raiders I dislike guys like the bucs gm how many breaks has he had getting to the gm spot he’s in now? Two side of a coin best to look at both before you pass judgement
The Raiders have a different cast of characters than most teams. Devin White is just one of many past and present. The Raiders don’t really have a good team this year and have not had a good team in 20 or 25 years. I don’t think they win more than 6 or 7 games this year. Devin White will not make a difference…
