Outside of Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker, the Raiders don’t have any wide receivers on the roster with significant NFL experience going into the 2025 season.
For that reason the Raiders should be considered candidates to add a veteran wide receiver before the start of the season, and a name that’s going to be at the center of trade discussions for the foreseeable future is Washington’s Terry McLaurin.
McLaurin has been frustrated by contract negotiations with the Commanders and will not be attending minicamp, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.
McLaurin skipped OTAs and minicamp three years ago and that maneuver led to the deal he’s playing on today. This time, though, McLaurin in 29 years old and the Commanders don’t seem particularly interested in committing to him again.
McLaurin is coming away from five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and his current deal only runs through the 2025 season. If nothing changes, he will be an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
There’s no question the Raiders could use a player like McLaurin, but between the trade cost and money it would take to extend his contract, it seems like a long shot that he would be a logical fit in Las Vegas.
With rookie wide receivers Jack Bech and Dont’e Thornton now in the mix, Raiders GM John Spytek probably isn’t going to want to bury them on the depth chart behind a soon-to-be 30-year-old player with a long financial commitment.
There will be free agent wide receiver options as the season gets closer and if the Raiders are going to make a big move ahead of the season, the cornerback and linebacker positions figure to be a higher priority for the decision-makers in Las Vegas.
As it stands, the Raiders have Meyers, a couple of promising young wideouts and two tight ends that can move around in the formation. Head coach Pete Carroll isn’t going to want to throw the ball a lot, anyway, so there probably isn’t a lot of panic in the building right now to add another pass catcher – especially not one that would come at a massive cost.
