Davante Adams Already a Headache for the Jets?

On October 15, the Raiders granted Davante Adams a trade and dealt their star wide receiver to the New York Jets in a deal that Adams had essentially been trying to orchestrate for months.

Adams was thrilled to play with Aaron Rodgers again and last month he explained a little about why he was frustrated with his situation in Las Vegas.

“I don’t want that helpless feeling [when] I’m on the field,” Adams said after being traded to the Jets. “Not every game’s going to be a 100-yard game or a 150, 200-yard game, but I want to feel like I can impact the game every time I touch the field. So just having the confidence that I’ll be able to make some plays and change the game, if need be, versus getting out there on the field and feeling like we need too many things to go right in order for me to be successful.”

The grass was supposed to be greener for Adams in New York, but less than a month after the trade, the Jets have lost 3 out of 4 games, and maybe even more surprising is the fact that Adams has been less productive in New York than he was in Las Vegas.

In four games with Rodgers and the Jets, Adams has 206 receiving yards on 20 receptions and one touchdown.

In three games with the Raiders, Adams had 18 receptions for 209 yards and a touchdown.

Adams’ yards per reception in New York (10.3) has dropped from where it was in Las Vegas (11.6), and he is barely getting more targets with Rodgers. Adams was averaging 9.0 targets per game with the Raiders and is getting 9.75 targets per game with the Jets.

At the time of the trade, some questioned whether the Raiders got enough in return for Adams, but less than a month after the deal, it looks like it was the Jets who got fleeced.

Not only did Adams come with a massive contract, but now the Jets are getting some of the same post-game vibes Adams was giving as a member of the Raiders.

After losing 31-6 to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Adams talked about the Jets not playing to “the standard” and from the outside, it doesn’t look like his quarterback situation in New York is much better than it was in Las Vegas.

Unfortunately for Adams, and everyone else with the Jets, the spotlight on New York teams isn’t like anywhere else in the country.

It’s only going to get worse for Adams in New York and his path out the disaster is going to be even more complicated this time around.

Based on the way he’s playing right now, who will want to trade for Adams’ contract that comes with a $38 million cap hit next year? From the Jets standpoint, how can they justify trading a player they just gave up a third-round pick to get?

There’s no guarantee Rodgers is going to return to the Jets next year and that means Adams may have maneuvered himself into a situation worse than anything he put up with in Las Vegas.

Even if Rodgers does play again in 2025, is that necessarily a good thing for Adams and the Jets as an organization?

The Raiders have problems of their own, but it was clear as of last month that Adams wasn’t going to be a part of the solution. Now just a month into his tenure with the Jets, it’s already looking like he isn’t going to be part of the solution in New York, either.

  1. Teammate quiter Randy Moss 2.0 is getting his instant karma, how’s that trade working out for you and your boyfriend here in NYC❗️ Welcome to the Big Apple dumba— and Bafongu you Devante Raider Nation wishes you unhappiness for the rest of your miserable time❗️❗️😅

  2. 11 productive players is better than 1 overpaid superstar… hopefully the Raiders will start keeping good players instead of trading them and getting an overpriced player that doesn’t fit… offensive line should be primary focus if you have a billion dollar Quarterback running for his life or getting hit all the time your going to have the problems the Raiders have… front line and a good running back everything else will fall in place… o yeah a good offensive coordinator and game plan that fits the offense…

  3. The Oakland Colosseum is for sale MD buy it and build a football stadium only bigger and open roof outdoor stadium… remember field of Dreams build it and he will have Home Field Advantage…

  4. Too bad. He wanted out of LV got what he wanted and oops. It’s not working, imagine that. Raiders gotta be happy to get rid of his salery. Now him and his buddy AR can take warm showers together. I wish them the best. By Felicia.

  5. As Mr Spock would say Fascinating an opportunity presents itself at the Oakland Colosseum and MD has not taken advantage of… a golden opportunity for the Raiders to return to their origin… or as you humans would say return Home… LIVE LONG And PROSPER…

  6. I think Devante needs a touch of humility. Maybe the Saints would’ve been a better fit .

Devante, take a lesson from your friend, Derek. He is always humble.

  7. He made his bed now he needs to lay in his bed The Oakland Raiders tried to accommodate him and he thought that the grass was greener in NY with his x qb and now he’s just as miserable in the largest media market as he was with the Oakland Raiders oh well the Raiders got the last laugh 😃 😀 😄

  8. Davante is learning the grass isn’t greener on the other side of the football and he just ran out of options to force his way into. Now he’s stuck with the Jets and they’re stuck with him.
    Where to now ??
I don’t like to use the word quitter but it surely fits this narrative.
Will his next move be to retire ??

  9. Im a Raider fan and didnt want Adams there in the first place.Came to play with his old college teammate Derek Carr who had held the franchise hostage for (9) years. They played in one of the college football weakest conferences which does not make for success in the NFL.Glad he is gone so the Raiders can move on.lm ok with losing with guys who are hungry.
