Thanks to strong performances by both Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew on Saturday, the Raiders quarterback competition isn’t a whole lot clearer after one week of preseason.
The regular season opener is about a month away and it’s still anyone’s guess who will be the starting quarterback when the Raiders travel to Los Angeles for the regular season opener against the Chargers. It could come down to which style of play head coach Antonio Pierce is most comfortable with.
One person who has made up his mind on the starting quarterback in Las Vegas, though, is former Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant.
Bryant posted on X during Saturday’s game that Minshew deserves a “real opportunity” to be a starting quarterback in the NFL and thinks Davante Adams would put up 1,500 to 1,700 receiving yards with Minshew as the starter.
There’s no question Minshew has proven that he can be a starting quarterback in the NFL and it’s worth noting that his career numbers are actually better than Trevor Lawrence’s…
Regardless of who starts for the Raiders this season, it was at least good to see they have two quarterbacks moving in the right direction.
Based on reports from training camp, it was starting to sound like that might not be the case.
After Saturday’s game, there’s a real quarterback competition brewing in Las Vegas, and not just a situation where someone could get the job by being the lesser of two underwhelming options.
Now let’s see how the two quarterbacks follow up in the second week of the preseason…

This guy thinks that after one half of one preseason game? Obviously, his opinion is worthless.
His numbers are better then Trevor Lawrence yet Lawrence just got a 200 plus million contract why because of his ceiling, way to much politics in sports.
