With pick no. 215 in the draft, the Raiders selected North Dakota State quarterback Cam Miller and he’s a player not a lot of NFL fans are probably familiar with.
He was a player that wasn’t linked to Raiders at all prior to the draft and here’s what The Athletic’s Dane Brugler wrote about Miller prior to the draft.
Via the “The Beast” draft guide…
Cam Miller, QB, North Dakota State
“A four-year starter at North Dakota State, Miller was the point guard of former offensive coordinator Jake Landry’s run-heavy scheme (averaged just 21.9 pass attempts per game). A two-time FCS national champion as a starter (2022 and 2024), he set school records for career passing yards (9,720), completions (759) and total offense (11,997)…
Miller is an intelligent game manager who takes what the defense gives him and relies on timing and placement over pure arm power. The son of a football coach, his mental approach and on-field production showed improvements each season, although he will continue to have his doubters because of the level of competition he faced. Overall, Miller won’t wow you right away because the physical traits are average. The more you watch, though, the more you come to appreciate his decision-making and feel for the position. He can be an asset in an NFL quarterback room as a reserve.” – Brugler
Grade: 6th–7th Round
Strengths:
- Delivers with balance in drops, quiet feet and a clean stroke
- Puts premium on placement and optimal spots for receiver
- Comfortable cycling through reads in timely fashion
- Anticipates windows and trusts receivers to get there
- Takes care of football (four interceptions and one fumble over 16 games in 2024)
- Opportunistic athlete to buy time and take yards when they are there
- Voted a 2024 team captain and known for unflappable play in high-pressure situations
- Faced only two FBS opponents in career (Arizona in 2022, Colorado in 2022) but was productive in both games (82.4 percent completions, 401 passing yards, five total touchdowns, zero interceptions)
- Started 54 straight games to finish career (45-11 career record as starter)
Weaknesses:
- Modest size by NFL standards and can be swallowed up in pocket
- Good-enough arm strength but timing must be perfect to get pass there before the defender
- Ball needs to come out more quickly on downfield shots
- Gets through progressions too fast on some reads, lingers too long on others
- Still improving footwork in pocket to keep his eyes, hips and feet on same page
- Bad habit of dropping eyes late in down
- 54 of 56 career starts came against FCS competition
From the time Tom Brady formally arrived as a minority owner of the Raiders, there has been a hope that he would be able to identify a college quarterback in this year’s draft with the ability to be next great quarterback in Silver & Black.
Time will tell if Miller has what it takes to be a starting quarterback in the NFL, but he has obviously received Brady’s stamp of approval, which automatically makes him one of the more intriguing quarterback prospects in this year’s draft.

They still don’t get it!! Draft grade is F——-!!
SMH I wouldn’t go that far.
You don’t get it.
Naw this was our best draft in a long time. WR Bech is gonna play a nice role, like Brock. Get us first downs. We needed OL, got a starter in Caleb Rogers, other dude need to hit the weight room and get used to NFL speed. Next year he can compete at LT. I would have taken Shadeur after round 4. And some of the late round guys, like we probably could have got as FAs. But solid OL picks. DTs, they are there to just help get Mahomes on the ground. Neither can play the run.
The last two picks were made by family members of the players. There is no other logical explanation other than the involvement of drugs.
That’s the fun of the draft. Yeah, those were guys we could of got as FAs
Every single undated FA we signed is a joke except for Dotson. Terrible scouting for true ballers.
You don’t take one dimensional players with no upside during the draft. Period.
Undrafted.
Great draft!
Great Draft!
