ESPN Insider Polled NFL Teams on Davante Adams Trade Odds

Trade rumors around Davante Adams have cooled in recent weeks, and ESPN’s Seth Walder did a survey among NFL teams this week on the chances that the Raiders’ star wide receiver will traded ahead of the deadline.

Walder reached out to all 32 NFL teams and received responses from 22 to of those teams.

Walder said there are still teams who believe Adams will be traded, but others think the ideal window of opportunity has passed…

“Some people were quite optimistic Adams — who is a potential trade candidate, as a good receiver with a cheap salary on what is expected to be a losing Raiders team — would be dealt by the deadline,” Walder said. “Others, not so much. Adams has been the subject of trade talk over the past year, most notably involving the Jets.”

“‘It’s kind of the difference between what should happen and what I think will happen,’ said one staffer who voted on the low end to this question. ‘The best time to trade Davante already probably passed.’ Another respondent said: ‘I think the biggest thing there is [GM] Tom Telesco doesn’t trade very much.”

Ultimately, when it comes to Adams’ standing with the Raiders, we’re going to have to see what the team looks like at the end of October. If the Raiders are in contention for the playoffs, there won’t be many good reasons to trade him. If they want draft picks, they can trade for them just as easily after the season and keep Adams on the roster for a playoff push.

Looking back to the Khalil Mack trade that still haunts the Raiders, the worst part of the deal (other than that they lost Mack in the deal) was the fact that they didn’t get anything in return for him until after the season.

It never made sense for the Raiders to trade Adams until at least the trade deadline.

If the Raiders are in contention at the trade deadline, why move away from the team’s most dynamic offensive player?

Like everything else in the NFL, the narratives around Adams and the Raiders will change from week to week. For now, the Raiders have a situation at quarterback that seems to be working, and their defense is good enough keep the team in games.

For Raiders GM Tom Telesco, there will be financial considerations to make on Adams’ future, but there is no benefit to rushing those decisions.

If the Raiders are winning, consider it unlikely that Adams will be traded ahead of the deadline.

  1. How many times does adams have to say he wants to be a raider? A million? Plus trading him will bring a 40 million cap hit. He will retire a raider..Do better raider beat,we just won a big game and your posting nonsense.

  2. Yah Walder, find something else to write about. Your story lines are really boring. You have no truth into the crap you write. You put up a heading and try and make a story. Maybe Walder the National Enquirer would better suit your style. Free king millineal. Geez where do they get these guys? Absolutely useless!
