A lengthy battle between the IRS and the estate of late Raiders owner Al Davis has come to a close. According to an Associated Press report, the Davis family is on the hook for $2.5 million in taxes going back all the way to 1990.
It was determined that the IRS did, in fact, fail to honor part of a contract with Davis and his business associates. Specifically, Davis was not afforded the opportunity to review tax bills before they were assessed.
In an attempt to recover the money, Davis slapped the IRS with a lawsuit in 2011 – only months before he passed.
After five years in the system, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Monday that the government blunder was indeed a blunder – just not a $2.5 million blunder.
