Is Chip Kelly on the ‘hot seat’ in Las Vegas?
If he is, no one’s going to announce it in the second week of November, but according to former Raider great Lincoln Kennedy this week, everyone is on the ‘hot seat’ from his point of view.
“I can’t stand them when people talk about the hot seat,” Kennedy said on the Locked on Raiders Squad Show podcast.
“We’re in a performance-based business. If your offensive struggle is worse than last year, it’s a direct reflection to coaching staff. Not only the players, but the coaching staff,” Kennedy continued. “So before you talk about… let’s replace this player, replace that player. You know, I don’t want to see anybody lose their job, but the fact is that you’ve got to rise to the occasion of the standards that you set.
“If you’re a coach, especially in the National Football League, you’ve got to find a way to make things happen… This offense is worse than it was last year statistically, and it doesn’t seem like there’s going to get any better. So who’s to blame? Everyone’s on the hot seat.”
What Kennedy was essentially saying is everyone in the NFL is on the hot seat when they aren’t performing – or in the case of Kelly, when his offensive unit isn’t performing.
$6 million salary or not, no NFL team is going to write a check to get worse.
Through the first nine games of the season, the Raiders’ offense has been as bad any offense in the league and Kelly has been criticized in recent weeks for the way he has deployed Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty.
With a little extra time to prepare for the Cowboys this week, it will be interesting to see how Kelly and the Raiders’ offense responds on Monday Night Football.

L. Kennedy is right on point. There comes a time that you see that your plan has failed. So,
you have to realign the hands on the deck and try to set the proper course.
In short, Kennedy is saying, WHATEVER you have to do to fix it, FIX IT.
The scary thing is this. We lost 3 in a row and thought Kelly will change it up and we’ll see something different. Nope. We lost 5 going into the bye and said it will be interesting to see what Kelly does to fix it. Assuming if you will that at each opportunity Kelly would do something different. Nope. So here we are out of the bar with an extended break coming off another series of losses and I read the same headline. Gee won’t it be interesting to see what Chip Kelly can do to make the offense look better after 10 days off. Golly I just can’t wait!
