Former Raiders Cornerback D.J. Hayden Killed in Car Accident

Terrible news.

Former Raiders’ cornerback D.J. Hayden has reportedly passed away in a motor vehicle accident. He was 33 years old.

The accident reportedly occurred at 2 a.m. on Saturday morning in Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, Hayden was one of six people who were killed when a vehicle ran a red light just outside of Houston on Fannin Street near the Gulf Freeway.

Hayden was 12th-overall pick in the 2013 draft, and was former Raiders’ GM Reggie McKenzie’s first 1st-round pick. Hayden made headlines in 2012 when he survived an incident with his heart that nearly killed him on the practice field at the University of Houston.

Hayden played the first four years of his NFL career with the Raiders and went on to play five more seasons with the Lions, Jaguars, and Commanders. His final season in the NFL was 2021 with the Commanders.

In nine NFL seasons, Hayden played in 92 games and recorded four interceptions.
