Veteran QB Jimmy Garoppolo Took a Clear Shot at the Raiders

Jimmy Garoppolo was supposed to be the veteran quarterback to lead the Raiders back to the promised land, but after throwing seven touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2023, his season was derailed by a concussion and a back injury.

After the season, Garoppolo was suspended for two games for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy.

The suspension saved the Raiders money upon Garoppolo’s release and by any standard the Garoppolo era in Silver & Black was a disaster.

Garoppolo hasn’t talked a lot about his time in Las Vegas, but this week he fired a zinger at one of his former teams, and even though he didn’t specifically mention them, the comment was clearly directed at the Raiders.

“I kind of knew where I wanted to be,” Garoppolo told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday. “The Rams came with a strong offer, I love the people here, love the teammates. So really I’m at the point of my career, those are the little things that make a difference to me.”

“It’s really more about the situation than the opportunity. There were some opportunities. But I’ve been in a bad organization, and I’ve seen how it can wear on you throughout the year. Just talking to my brothers, my family, didn’t want to go through that again.”

Other than the Rams, the only NFL teams Garoppolo has played for are the Patriots, 49ers and Raiders.

After the 2023 season, a comment from Mike Lombardi, who is the father of former Raiders OC Mick Lombardi, was an obvious reference to Garoppolo’s lack of chemistry with Davante Adams.

The senior Lombardi said on The GM Shuffle in 2023 that the Raiders offense underperformed with his son at offensive coordinator, but placed a lot of the blame on the quarterback play…

“I thought they did a hell of a job keeping that game as tight as they did against Detroit, but when your quarterback can’t complete a high school pass,” Lombardi said. “This rhetoric about ‘Oh my God, they’re not getting the ball to Davante Adams.’ Stop with the bullish— please. He’s open twice down the field and they’re high school throws and you don’t make them.”

Asked about his reunion with Adams, which wasn’t a particularly smooth relationship in Las Vegas, Garoppolo didn’t bring attention to the comments Adams made while the two were together in Vegas.

“Pumped, man,” Garoppolo said of reuniting with Adams during a Wednesday press conference. “Haven’t seen him in a while. Talented receiver. It’ll be fun seeing him again, just getting back on the same page. I’ve seen what he can do before.”

Garoppolo and Adams were rarely on the same page in Las Vegas, but that seems to be water under the bridge now.

It will be interesting to see how the tandem works out in Los Angeles if fate ends up putting Garoppolo and Adams on the field together in 2025.

  1. Another Q that looked liked a potential improvement that turned out to be a complete bust. One of many.
And anyone that thinks AOC at this point in time isn’t our best option as a back up needs to look from a straight perspective. If we had a stable competent IL and a run game he’d be a capable starter. There aren’t many if any starting Q’s that would’ve had any success in our offense last season.

  2. Yea, AOC will be good as our backup QB. This has been an uninspired FA period for the Raiders, so far. So much for all the talk about having all this cap $. I think our FA loses outweigh our gains and now that all the prime FA have been signed, our team will be left worse off. Seriously doubt that they can fill all those roster spots thru the draft. I’m predicting we wind up occupying the AFC West cellar once again. Hope, I’m eating crow at the end of next season, but really doubt it.

    1. And the just released James. Our OL is worse than it was if that’s even possible.
      Smith’s going throw a load of INT’s

      1. No doubt. Exactly what he did in Seattle, last year. They will have to invest a top pick on a guard and hope he is ready to contribute right away. No quality OL depth, either. Overall, just don’t see where the additions are going to make us better than the Chiefs, Broncos, nor Chargers. Signing a 32yr old RB doesn’t inspire much confidence either.

        1. Kolton Miller had more penalties and gave up more pressures than any other OL. We need a LT more than anything.

          1. Totally agree. They can improve the LT position, but maybe his contract limits whether they can replace him. We will be in position to draft the top1-2 rated OT.

          2. I agree. Solid in the past, and I always felt he was a little overrated. His numbers benefited from the rest of the line being so poor. Injuries haven’t helped. Still, he could improve from a better QB, offensive game plan & coaching staff, although I think the OL coach is the same. We don’t have good history drafting the position in round one.

  3. Something gives me the feeling the feeling isn’t mutual between Jimmy G and Davante.. wasn’t davante telling the raiders to play the next man up cuz Jimmy wasn’t finding him wide open streaking down either sideline ??

  4. Jimmy g is a useless qb. Lamb fans need to pray injured stafford doesn’t go down. If he does it’s mayhem. Kind of like kc choosing to have broken collar bone Minshew as a back up. Mr Crosby and Mr Koonce take them out!!!!!!

    1. Minshew did great as a backup at Indy. Just maybe his drop in play was due playing for the Raiders. Terrible OL play probably had a lot to do with his play. I think if called on he’ll play well for a good team, like KC.

  5. Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy. You’re not wrong about LV being a bad organization during your time here, but brother you were the first wheel to come off the wagon. Hell, you were the QB, it was like the front axle came off. That regime turned to YOU to right the ship, and YOU let them down. YOU lied about an injury when YOU signed a contract. YOU missed the entire off season program. The starting QB could not do any prep work, except study the playbook, if you did that. YOU should keep your pretty face shut and be grateful you are still cashing NFL checks.

    1. Geno Smith isn’t better. Him and Garoppolo are very similar.

Smith’s TD to INT ratio is a lot worse than Garoppolo.

Spytek is a moron. He shouldn’t be the GM of a little league team.

O line still not addressed. Alex Cappa is a joke of a signing, he’s garbage.

      Raheem Mostert another garbage signing.

    1. Yes I’ve been right in everything I said so far.

      You’ve been wrong about everything.

Ashton Jeanty at 6 huh? That’s retarded.

Geno Smith sucks, Alex Cappa sucks, Eric Stokes sucks, Jeremy Chinn decent in run support can’t cover anyone.

I’ll say it again, Spytek doesn’t belong as GM of a little league team he’s so retarded.

This is one bad move after another.

Wasted the cap space for a bunch of nobodies.

  6. I live in Americas finest city you don’t. I went to Raider games when they played at the LA memorial coliseum. I have been to games at Oakland alameda. I have been to games at Jack Murphy stadium I have been to 20 years of raiders playing once every year at Qualcomm stadium. Have you ever been to a Raider game douche bag?

    1. America’s finest city? That shithole called Oakland? It’s a dump. They don’t even have any teams left. Yes, been to many a**hole.

What is the ridiculous point you’re trying to make, Walt? You make no sense. As usual.

I’m in the best city in the country, the one where the country started. Not you, a**hole.

    1. San Diego is a bunch of retards. Like yourself. Fake sports teams, fake people, fake everything, no history. Not worth a dime. And it’s in California, the most retarded state there is.

Have fun with Kamala as your next governor.

  7. Hey Philly Raider, can you possibly put a real sentence together without using the word fake or re!!!rd in your vocabulary . Yes we enjoy the year round 72 degree average weather. We love our midrange 1.5 million dollar homes. We love everything about this beautiful city. The climate the Spanish heritage the ocean. Like Al Michaels said on night football. Where would you go of you ever left beautiful SanDiego?? Not sure… not freaking hell hole row home crime infested Philadelphia!!!!! Deal with it scum bag no one moves ever from Diego to Philly ever!!!!!

    1. Is that it? We have $10 million apartments here. The houses are far more. We have seasonal changes, something you’ll never see. If I want the Sun, I’ll go to Florida instead of commie California.

We have Italian heritage here so what is Spanish to us? Slightly higher Puerto Rican?

You have no history, a bunch of phoney imbeciles, and your governor can’t put out a fire.

  8. Wow 10 million dollar apts!!!! The most expensive home in San Diego county sold in 2023 in Del Mar for $44.1 million. FU as’:;/;wipe! GFY
