Gardner Minshew Shares Details of Maxx Crosby Pep Talk

Gardner Minshew played a huge role in the Raiders come-from-behind win against the Ravens on Sunday, and the turning point in the game (maybe even the season) seemed to come after a passionate pep talk from Maxx Crosby to Minshew that has gone viral in the days since the game.

The CBS broadcast didn’t catch the audio on the brief exchange between Crosby and Minshew, but Minshew shared what the All-Pro pass rusher said to him at Wednesday’s press conference.

“It was awesome, man. He grabbed me and just said ‘Hey, we’ve got your back, dude. We need that Washington State Gardner. We need that. I was like ‘Man, you’re right. Let me see if I can go whip that up real quick.'”

“That dude is a great leader,” Minshew continued. “He does it the right way, man, and couldn’t be more grateful to have him on our team.”

The Autumn Windbags on X (formerly Twitter): “I’ve been DYING to know what Maxx Crosby said to Gardner Minshew after he threw that pick against the Ravens. Finally got an answer. pic.twitter.com/zqg7V4ANcN / X”

Minshew gives great audio every time he steps to a podium, but in this case it’s probably hard to do justice to what Crosby told him. Additionally, it looks like Crosby said a little more, but we’ll probably never get the audio.

If CBS or anyone else has it, TMZ should pay the cost.

Raiders radio host JT The Brick talked about Crosby’s leadership this week, and he called the exchange between Crosby and Minshew a “monster moment” in the history of the organization.

“I thought that was a monster moment in the history of the Las Vegas Raiders,” JT said on Tuesday during an interview with Raiders GM Tom Telesco. “We don’t see that a lot. It just doesn’t happen where a defensive captain comes off the field and gets into a quarterback in a positive way, and then inspires that quarterback.”

At halftime of the Baltimore game, it looked like Aidan O’Connell might be close to getting an opportunity at quarterback, but after Minshew’s huge second half it’s been a week of ‘Minshew Mania’ from local and national media outlets.

  1. I traveled from San Diego to Baltimore to see that game & the Turn around in the 2nd half was amazing… I went from it’s time to make a switch to rumble young man rumble!!! It was great to see him take shots everytime Devante was in 1 on 1. That Defense reminds me of the Raiders of Old… couldn’t have been more proud to be a RAIDERS FAN & THE TRIP WAS EORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

  2. In a battle not just for the division title but the winner of these games would clearly win the Super Bowl this year. It was 1983 and both teams were loaded out with HOF players. It would come down to who wanted it more between the Raiders and the best team the Chargers ever fielded under Dan Foutes and Don Coreyel.

Ted Hendricks, the HOF great that Crosby is built a lot like, came to Jim Plunkett on the sideline and said, “ Jimmy you are going to have to keep scoring, we can not stop them.” Yes, the Chargers were that good this year and this was a great Raiders Defense too. Well, Plunkett knew what he had to do and we took care of business vs the only team who could have stopped us that year. We won the Super Bowl XVlll this year & denied the greatest Chargers team in their history from taking home the Lombardi trophy. We did it with the formula laid down by the four time world champion and HOF Raider, Ted “Mad Stork “ Hendricks, in the middle of a game to the great Jim Plunkett.

Raider history and greatness runs real deep and yes Crosby knows Hendricks and our history, our legacy and greatness very well. Crosby is the last of the Oakland Raiders and is showing the world what champions are made of.

  3. I am a fan of and believer in AOC12, but credit where credit is due. Good job, props, etc etc to Minshew Magic. Above all else I am a RAIDERS fan. Just win baby

  4. I’ve been a Raiders fan since my dad took me to Oakland Raiders games in the 70s. I had to miss the Super Bowl win over the Redskins because of a family commitment, but I was only 14 and thought, “I’ll watch them win the next Super Bowl. Who knew I’d be 55 years old and still waiting. In recent years, my reaction to a win like this one over the Ravens would be, “Great win, but they’re probably going to let it go to their heads and lose next two games.” And they always have. – But this year feels different. This team looks different. They might have bad plays, but I’m not seeing them make endless stupid penalties, or give up in the 3rd quarter.
The Raiders of old, after a huge win like this would lay and egg against a sub-par team, but I don’t see that happening this weekend. This team really does look like a motivated team with a lot of purpose and direction.
