Geno Smith was Pete Carroll’s hand-picked quarterback for the Raiders and after a tumultuous season that led to Carroll’s firing on Monday, there’s a good chance Smith’s time in Las Vegas is coming to an end, as well.
It has been reported for a while that Smith was a long shot to be back with the Raiders next year, and following the news on Carroll, Smith seemed to acknowledge that his pink slip is on the way.
Once upon a time, Smith’s Instagram page was one of optimism and enthusiasm around his career and even the Raiders.
For example, this post from early November….
But the mood changed on Monday as Geno deleted all but one video on his Instagram page.
No more mention of the Raiders and no more messages of being focused or purpose driven.
It was initially reported that Geno signed a two-year, $85 million extension in the offseason, but it turned out to be a two-year $75 million deal with incentives.
Then prior to the season ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio said the Raiders have the ability to get out of the deal without owing Smith more than the $40 million they will pay him in 2025.
“The contract carries $58.5 million fully guaranteed at signing. That said, the Raiders could still pull the plug (or trade the contract) after one season,” Florio reported in April. “Since he presumably wouldn’t play in 2026 for total compensation of $18.5 million, the Raiders could ultimately owe him nothing beyond the $40 million he’ll make in 2025.”
Whatever way the finances play out in Smith’s contract, it seems he isn’t going to be with the Raiders next year and when he is finally released, it will be a decision welcomed by everyone involvement.
x: @raidersbeat

Any success he had in his career was purely coaching and his supporting cast.
His wonderlik scores told everything about him.
Gina, you never were a Raider. Don’t ever forget that.
And his athletic ability. Born with most of it. Just an afterthought
That’s great news!
Good riddance, he was god awful, terrible signing.
L8R ON HARD ON!
The middle finger was enough for me. Bye.
Geno…..I don’t think you have any friends here. Maybe go to New York, they have two teams and……..oh sh……No friends on that coast either…….Do like UFL?
We already know he will be released. The move just won’t officially until on or shortly after March 11th. When the 26 NFL league year begins. He will get a 18.5 million parting gift from the Raiders, and be a Veteran QB2 somewhere else next season.
Odds were he was not going to be back next season regardless. The door was just officially locked when Carroll was fired on Monday. None of this is shocking.
