Gruden: Derek Carr Is Going To Be The Raiders Quarterback

Jon Gruden is tired of getting questions about Derek Carr’s status with the Raiders. Lately, though, Gruden has become better at answering questions about Carr and on Monday, Gruden was given another opportunity to address the rumors surrounding his quarterback.

In an interview with NFL Network, Gruden was asked by Jim Trotter if he would say “categorically” that Carr will be the Raiders quarterback in 2019.

“Yeah, he’s going to be our quarterback,” Gruden answered. “I’m not going to address all the rumors. I could care less about the rumors. He threw for 4,100 yards, three for almost 70 percent in a very dire, tough circumstance. So I’ve got a lot of confidence in Carr, what he can do with Antonio Brown, with Tyrell Williams, with Trent Brown coming in here to help our offensive line, with better defense. Yeah, I’m excited about Carr.”

For what it’s worth, Gruden was also asked about the team meeting with Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins, who are both projected to be chosen at the top of the draft. Gruden confirmed that the Raiders will be meeting with both saying they are “not going to look past anybody at any position.”

So what happens if the Raiders evaluate one of the quarterbacks and deem that player a franchise quarterback… and then that quarterback falls to them at pick four? What would they do?

You can bet the Giants or some of the other quarterback-needy teams at the top of the draft would love to know in advance.
