Ben Johnson is expected to the next head coach of the Raiders and that is a development that has not been received well by Bears fans.
Social media has been reacting to Johnson and his apparent lack of interest in the Chicago job, and among the internet rioters this week was FS1 host Danny Parkins.
Parkins is an outspoken Bears fan and co-host with outspoken Raider hater Mark Schlereth. On their show this week, Parkins called Johnson “insane” if he takes the Raiders job over the Bears.
“I get believing in yourself. I get believing that you can overcome any mountain, climb to summit, all that,” Parkins said this week on FS1’s Breakfast Ball.
“But if [Ben Johnson] chooses, after passing up the Washington job, turning down interviews, to not work with Caleb Williams and [goes] against Harbaugh, Payton, Reid, Herbert, Nix and Mahomes for a four-win team that has no quarterback, there’s confidence and then there’s delusion,” Parkins continued. “If Ben Johnson chooses to go to the Raiders, I will then be glad that he didn’t go to the Bears. And to be clear, I badly want [Ben Johnson] to go to the Bears, but if you choose the Raiders, you’re insane.”
Time will tell if Johnson actually picks the Raiders over the Bears, but it’s a little naive to think the Chicago job is overwhelmingly a better situation than the one in Las Vegas.
The only clear advantage the Bears have on the Raiders is at the quarterback position, and it’s worth noting that Caleb Williams isn’t celebrated by his NFL peers in the same way he tends to be on social media.
Johnson would probably be a good fit with Williams, but Tampa’s Liam Coen and Baltimore’s Todd Monken should both be considered strong backup options for the Bears.
When the dust settles on the coaching hires, let’s revisit this discussion in a year or two.
Which head coach will end up being fired first… the one in Chicago or the one in Las Vegas?
x: @raidersbeat
Hows that song go ” the bears still suck” ? Delusional bears fanboy plus Johnson likely does t want to go against his buddy’s in Detroit. And Tom Brady is involved enough said.
Who is that Pee-wee Herman?
I am not a Great proponent of Hiring yet another Coordinator with no HC experience. It is a Crapshoot because being the Head Man is Way More than X’s and O’s… In Fact a Head Coach doesn’t really have to be a “Genious” at the Game itself. He Must be a Solid Administrator, Decision Maker, an Inspirational Megalith and, Most Importantly, a Natural Leader of Men (Warriors). That said F those Chicago Babies – I’ll Take Johnson just to Spite them!!! Go Blow You Gold Wind somewhere Else… LoL
I want Pete Carroll ,Johnson has to many Josh McDaniels traits.
