The Raiders announced on Wednesday that the team and punter A.J. Cole agreed to a contract extension that reportedly amounts to a four-year, $15.8 million deal with $11 million of that money guaranteed.
With Cole’s announcement, it’s fair to wonder if anyone else on the roster might be in line for a contract extension ahead of the 2025 season.
Raider Nation Radio host Q Myers raised the question this week and offered three players he would extend before next year.
In no particular order, from Myers via the Locked on Raiders podcast…
Daniel Carlson, Kicker
From Myers:
“I believe that [Carlson] should be extended just like they extended AJ Cole.
Those two dudes, those are great running buddies together. You know, they’re part of that special team battery where you want to make sure that you keep all those guys together. You know, that it’s all part of a process, right?
Those two guys need to go hand in hand. So I think that that’s the first guy, especially since we’re talking about AJ Cole. Daniel Carlson is the first guy that they should be looking at.
And when I say they, I mean [Raiders GM] John Spytek and [Raiders HC] Pete Carroll to get him extended sooner rather than later. Again, no guaranteed money on his deal this year.”
Kolton Miller, Left Tackle
From Myers:
“Speaking of no guaranteed money, another guy that we’ve talked about quite a bit… is Kolton Miller, right? He’s 29 years old. He’s been the Raiders starting left tackle since he was drafted in the first round back in 2018, number 15 overall.
No guaranteed money on his deal last year. No guaranteed money on his deal this year, right? And then at the end of this year, he’ll be an unrestricted free agent.
This dude, I know he hasn’t been Trent Williams. He hasn’t been the best left tackle in football. I’m not going to sit there and try to blow smoke up your backside and try to sell you a bill of goods like that.
But the dude’s been consistently consistent, right? And that’s all I ask for...
Don’t give me a 10 one year, then give me a nine, then give me a five, then give me a four. You know what I mean? Give me what you’re going to be.
Tell me who you are all the time. Kolton Miller, if at the worst he’s a seven consistently.
He’s there, you know, talking with Pete Carroll. He’s there talking with Brennan Carroll, the offensive line coach. He’s out there with his teammates. He’s there with John Spytek. He’s doing what he’s supposed to be doing and I’m thinking, and this is just my gut feeling. This is not me reporting it. So please don’t say ‘Q said this, Q said that.’ No, I just, my gut feeling tells me they’re going to take care of him. My gut feeling tells me something’s going to happen sooner rather than later. I know he has no guaranteed money on his deal. That’s always a big focus.
I think that they get Kolton Miller taken care of… I think they need to. Why do they need to? Because they don’t need to have more questions on the offensive line. When we’re already talking about the expectations for Ashton Jeanty and how great we think he’s going to be. And then we also say, ‘Well, is the offensive line really built for that?’ Well, you know what?
No need to put another hole in the offensive line. You have Kolton Miller at the left tackle spot. You got JPJ at the center spot and you’ve got DJ Glaze at the right tackle. So fill out the guards, the left guard and the right guard and be good, right? Start to gel, start to come together. Don’t create another hole.”
Jakobi Meyers, Wide Receiver
From Myers:
“Jakobi does a little bit of everything… Had his first thousand-yard season last year. He’s never seen complaining. You’ll never hear him complaining about the current situation of the team. The fact that they’re on a 10-game losing streak. The fact that they can’t get a quarterback to be consistently throwing the ball.
You can’t get a run game. You know, there’s coaching turnover, this, that, and the other. He’s always that guy in the locker room. It’s like, ‘Man, you know, we just got to, we just got to keep doing what we’re doing, right? I’m here fighting for my brothers, man.’
He’ll be looking for a contract at some point. He’ll get a contract. He’s only what, 29 years old? [He’ll be 30 years old when his current contract expires. But all he’s done the first two years, 158 catches, 1,834 yards and 12 touchdowns.
You know who he reminds me of, as well?
Now that the Raiders have Pete Carroll as their head coach, like a really good Tyler Lockett. And Tyler Lockett was really good with the Seattle Seahawks. But it’s the same kind of blue-collar approach…
Tough minded dude, willing to do whatever you at the team asked. I mean, that’s who Tyler Lockett was. That’s why Pete Carroll was such big fans of his.
And that’s why I was surprised when Lockett got released from Seattle that the Raiders didn’t sign him. But then the more I thought about it, I was like, they already got their Tyler Lockett. His name is Jakobi Meyers, right?
And he’s a really good wide receiver. The only thing is, Jakobi, I think, is a better wide receiver than Tyler Lockett was.”
As of Monday, the Raiders have just over $36 million in salary cap room if they choose to extend current players on the roster.
Should they feel the need to be aggressive, the Raiders could also look to add a big name (and big contract) to the roster before the start of the season.

Time to get it done General Spytek, they are cornerstones and are all deserving through all the bs they had to go through on the management carosel.
Carlson/Miller yes. Myers isn’t special & they drafted 3 guys to play WR. Only if it’s a modest deal.
Huh?
