Host Says Eagles Took Advantage of New Raiders’ New Coaching Staff in Bennett Trade

It was reported on Monday that the Eagles and Raiders agreed to a trade that will send cornerback Jakorian Bennett to Philadelphia in exchange for defensive tackle Thomas Booker IV.

Bennett was arguably the top cornerback in Las Vegas a year ago, but he has been through three GMs in his time with the Raiders and new head coach Pete Carroll has always placed an emphasis on taller, long-armed cornerbacks.

By all accounts, the coaching staff in Vegas has been impressed with Decamerion Richardson and Darien Porter, and Bennett had been getting training camp reps with the third string.

The writing was on the wall for Bennett in his third year and Eagles GM Howie Roseman has become known for identifying players in need of a different situation and making deals to bring them to Philadelphia.

In this case, NFL podcast host Ross Tucker believes the Eagles got the best of the Raiders by only giving up a backup defensive tackle for a starting-caliber cornerback.

“Bennett played very well for the Raiders,” Tucker said on the Ross Tucker Podcast.

“I think here’s what Howie Roseman did. Two things. One is he took advantage of a new coaching staff in Las Vegas, that’s looking for bigger corners than Bennett, and also the Raiders kind of have some defensive tackle desperation after the Christian Wilkins release. I’m a little bit surprised the Raiders weren’t able to get more for Jakorian Bennett than this.”

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vinny Bonsignore, the Raiders had been shopping Bennett for a couple of weeks, so if there was a better deal available, it sounds like it wasn’t for a lack of reaching out to other teams.

Booker didn’t get a lot of opportunities in Philadelphia, but it might be worth noting the Raiders recently hired Roseman’s “right hand man” in Anthony Patch, who now holds the title of Senior Personnel Executive with the Raiders.

Maybe someone in the Raiders’ building saw something in Booker that Roseman didn’t?

  1. Spytek is awful.

We gave the Eagles a starting CB for a scrub depth DT.

A starter for a depth piece.

    What is Spytek doing?!

    1. Agreed, but with an asterisk. Carroll has just as much sway on the roster. Pete hasn’t been a great talent observer for many years. From what I’ve seen Petetek has not got value from the entire off-season. From drafting players rounds earlier than they should to signing players to essentially one year rentals that eliminate next years compensatory picks. The overdrafting of Jeanty puts the impression that he needs to come in and get 1500+ rushing, 400+ receiving and 13+ total TDs as well as blitz pickups.

      1. Gee, maybe we could see how all of Spytek’s lousy drafting/signings actually work out this season before we cr*p all over him?

How many successful NFL teams have you built or been a contributor to?

        1. Oh, so you’re exercising common sense here are you? I agree, let’s give this time to play out before we hang anybody.

      2. Complete weirdo take on Jeanty who not only was the best offensive player in the draft but the best player at #6 playing a NEED position for the Raiders. You might want to do some homework next time.

    2. Hyperbolic statement as usual, the sky is falling. Bennett’s run D is well below average, his pass coverage is average at best. Booker is average as well.

A “starter” for the Raiders over the last several years, in many cases, doesn’t mean much compared to other successful franchises starters and it pains me to write that.

It may or may not work out for both teams, lay off the caffeine or whatever substance compels you to post these ridiculous, frenetic comments over and over again.

      1. Get real, dude. Go to another sport besides football, bc u make zero sense! Even the writers say the Eagles got the better of the deal. This makes TWO teams that passed in Booker. I guess you’re in denial there too? Plus stating that CB need to be tall to be successful?! You’re not worthy of a response.

        1. Golly, writers know everything huh? They’re never wrong, right?

I think you’re the one who needs to get real and watch this play out, before you pass judgement.

          1. If writer were that good in seeing talent why aren’t they coaching? Writer will say anything. If Bennett was that good why wasn’t he doing good during practice, I’ll kick back and let Pete Carroll and company do their job and picking out the right players, cause as I read there’s alot of unemployed coaches writing this and that about players, so there’s coached that call Sunday sofa coaches that can’t get a real coaching job. And who gives a rats *** about what Philadelphia think! everybody thinks they always get or steal players from other teams and all that bs, but it’s funny then the Sunday sofa coaches start speaking their minds on how great certain moves were. But I don’t give a flying who gives a dann about what’s going on on teams. I’m not getting paid so let the one’s getting paid do their job and quit sweating the small stuff 😅 😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤓🤔🤫🤔🧐

    3. Hate it when incoming HC and GM give away good, young, proven players just bc they didn’t draft them or they “don’t fit”.

    4. He was a third stringer at best with the raiders. But in case you haven’t heard Bennett was allergic to interceptions. His whole time with the raiders and in college he ran in stride with receivers but only batted balls down. They just couldn’t train him to grab the ball out of the air and go the other way with it..besides, they were gonna cut him if nobody offered anything for him..raiders did good !!!

  2. Geno Smith took advantage as well and the front office let it happen. 3rnd pick and over 66 million guaranteed. Factor in the Wilkins deal and it seems like same old Raiders.

    1. For a quality starting QB in the NFL, that was the going rate, notice I didn’t say elite, but smith is a quality QB.

  3. I think the Eagles got the better of the deal. Bennett was an up n coming CB until he got hurt. I don’t know what they see in Richardson bc he was toast, last year. And trusting Stokes to stay healthy isn’t good thinking. I don’t like the move.

  4. Eagles get a small, injury prone, very average “starter” lol, 2nd or 3rd string on most successful NFL teams.

Raiders get a D lineman that never really got a chance due to the stacked Eagle DL, and as the article stated at the end: “it might be worth noting the Raiders recently hired Roseman’s “right hand man” in Anthony Patch, who now holds the title of Senior Personnel Executive with the Raiders. Maybe someone in the Raiders’ building saw something in Booker that Roseman didn’t”

Booker may suck, but I’d rather take the opinion of a professional front office guy, who saw Booker play rather than a bunch overly negative commenters who have never attempted to put together an NFL team.

  5. We’ll see. I liked Bennett quite a bit, but his injury history was going to make it tough to get full value for his potential, and it sounds like the current regime didn’t plan to keep him in the roster. Obviously, if Bennett turns into a reliable starter, that’s going to look bad, but I doubt there was a better deal out there. I wouldn’t count on much from Booker, but the Eagles do have good depth on their defensive line, so he may show something with more of an opportunity.

  6. Man, so many whiny babies on here that sound like they know next to nothing about the sport. Those of you crapping on Spytek, y’all are in a whole different level of whiny and stupid. The man has done nothing to deserve that criticism. Don’t start doing that same old b**chfest about every thing.

  7. I’m trusting everything that they are doing!! We look better than we have in years!! I feel like we in good shape! U guys are not true fans!! Me since 74!!! Bleed RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. So this is SOOO easy. Attention to all the Eagles fans who think they got over and to the so called Raiders that’s on here bitching and moaning. Ummm OBVIOUSLY the outside corners that we have (Stokes, Porter, Richardson) were OUT PLAYING Bennett in camp. So, if you use COMMON SENSE, that means that Bennett wasn’t gonna be on the field us that often. For y’all “Raiders fans” that’s listening to a beat writer…… Y’ALL STUPID 🤣😂. He’ll say anything on behalf of his Eagles and y’all dumb enough to believe him as if he’s at Raiders’ practices evaluating the players. What he didn’t show was the plays that Bennett gave up. He also didn’t mention that Bennett had a PFF rating of 58. Saying that Bennett was our best corner last year doesn’t mean that he was an All Pro. If Bennett was our best corner and we have 3 playing better than him, then that means we UPGRADED!!! So why hang on to player who got injured and benched(in favor of Amik Robertson) his rookie year and then injured his second year? Why not fill a need on the interior D line with a rotational piece. But NOOO y’all would rather hang on to a player that was barely gonna play. Makes too much sense huh dummies? In Carroll, Spytek and Brady I TRUST. Common sense ain’t so common these days #RNFL
