Will the Raiders stick with Pete Carroll after a disappointing first year with the organization?
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said this week that Carroll is firmly on the hot seat, but Raider Nation Radio host Q Myers thinks the team is going to make every effort to avoid firing another head coach after one season.
“We’ve talked about the big decisions that they have to make at the end of the season and I know the next handful of games are going to determine it. If Pete Carroll can be this guy leading the team forward. I think that the Raiders are going to try to give him every effort. This is just my gut feeling,” Myers said on the Locked on Raiders podcast.
“Give him every effort to stay on as the head coach. I don’t think that they want to fire him. Again, just my gut feeling. I don’t think that they want to move on from him, but if they’re going to keep him, they’ve got to let him bring in who fits with what they that he wants to do.”
If Carroll does keep his job, it will be interesting to see how he handles the offensive line situation.
Brennan Carroll (Pete’s son) presided over the worst offensive line in the NFL this year and the chaos around his position group has extended well beyond the playing field.
Going back to training camp and the coaching staff’s approach to Jackson Powers-Johnson ‘competing’ at multiple positions for a starting job, it has been one head-scratching decision after another along the Raiders’ offensive line this year.
For those reasons (presumably), Myers brought up the idea of the Raiders allowing the elder Carroll to return but giving him an ultimatum of sorts on his son.
“They may say, ‘Pete, look, we don’t want to fire you. We don’t. We are not in the business to hire and fire head coaches. You’ve got multiple years on your deal. You’ve got a track record that shows that you can do this. You’re turned organizations around. We want you to do that. We want you to, you know, be able to execute the vision that you had in your mind, but your son is going to have to go,'” Myers suggested.
“‘The offensive line is not doing what it’s supposed to do and you’re going to have to move on from him.’ He might say ‘Thanks, but no thanks’ as a lot of fathers would be like, ‘Hey, I don’t have the stones to fire my son. I don’t want to do that, so we’ll just mutually part ways.’ I could see that happening. I could see him having to make the tough decision to move on from his, his son.”
“If that comes down, if that’s the ultimatum that this team puts in front of him. And if they do and he stays on whatever, however he gets there, if he stays on beyond this year, he has to get an offensive coordinator that fits with what he wants to do… So I just hope that if they do decide to keep Pete Carroll… [they] allow him to be able to pick the offensive coordinator that best fits with what he wants to do, not what necessarily Tom Brady wants to do or Mark Davis wants to do. It has to be what the head coach wants to do.”
With five games remaining in the season, Carroll has a small window of opportunity, but it’s enough time to show is moving the team in the right direction.
With so many injuries and a difficult schedule down the stretch, it will be a challenge to finish the season on a positive note. But at this point the bar has been set so low that any kind of competence, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, would be an encouragement to see.

Coach Biden needs to go! What is Q talking about? Coach Biden already has brought in his players. He brought in Cappa, Forsythe, Lockett, Geno, didn’t play the rookies, and wouldn’t let Chip Kelly run his offense.
How much more control does one person need?
Coach Biden needs to get shown the door ASAP.
I agree Carroll has to go. This franchise is a mess but there is one thing everyone can agree on Pete Carroll hired his son to be the oline coach and brought Geno Smith on board not Brady, Davis or Spytek they may have agreed to it but that was all Carroll and for that alone he should be canned. Then you can factor in all his other bullsh*t and how can he not be fired.
That would be Coach Trump. You need to reread your Epstien files. They’re on Pam Bondi’s desk.
