We’re just a few weeks away from knowing the fate of Antonio Pierce in Las Vegas, and if the Raiders decide to move on from their head coach, it will be interesting to see which candidates are interested in the job.
The Raiders most likely won’t be one of the most coveting head-coaching jobs in the NFL, but according to Las Vegas Raiders insider Hondo Carpenter, the Raiders wouldn’t go into a coaching search without having a good idea of who would be replacing him.
More specifically, Carpenter said minority owner Tom Brady will have a good idea of who will be the next head coach in the event Pierce is fired.
“I can tell you that I’ve been told by enough people who know Tom very well, if [Antonio Pierce] is terminated, he knows exactly who’s coming in,” Carpenter said of Brady on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast. “Now they’ll have to go through all the rules of interviewing a bunch of people, but he’ll know who he’s bringing in.”
One of the popular candidates linked to the Raiders has been former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and he has been connected to plenty of destinations outside of Las Vegas in recent weeks.
Vrabel is considered one of the favorites to get the Ohio State head coaching job if the Buckeyes fire Ryan Day, and now he is being linked to the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots.
Another nugget dropped on Vrabel this week and it involves his offensive coordinator at his next head coaching stop.
According to Sports Illustrated senior insider Albert Breer, former Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels is one of the names at the top of the list to be Vrabel’s next offensive coordinator.
If Vrabel ends up in Las Vegas, you can bet McDaniels won’t be traveling west with him.
McDaniels might be a competent offensive coordinator (although it’s debatable), but he wouldn’t be a fit with the Raiders in any capacity. Outside of AFC West opponents, it would be hard to find anyone with lower approval rating than Josh McDaniels among the fan base.
Mark Davis might be able to make peace with fans booing the team in weeks 17 and 18, but a McDaniels revival in Las Vegas would bring back the boos in game 1, quarter 1, play 1.

NOOOOOO MORE MCDANIELS ( MCWORM). HELL NOOOOOOOO! LET’S FKN GOOOOOO RAIDERSSSSSSS.
If you think Jan. 6th was a riot, you haven’t seen anything yet. If they bring back Mc Daniels….forgettaboutit !
I been a Raider since 1972. With all the bad decisions we have had bad look. With coaches and injuries at the wrong time. McDaniels return would likely be me turning in my Silver&Black. That would be the straw that breaks the Camel back.
Bill Bellicek is the only choice ! Vrable and McDaniels proved they can’t coach at the pro level . I’ve been a loyal fan of the team since they were in Oakland . And seen my first game on TV when we played Green Bay in the championship game in the mid 60’s when I was 10 yrs old. Please hire a known quality coach who will return our RAIDERS back to the elite level.
I know everyone wants to throw Antonio Pierce under the bus, but I believe he deserves at least another year. Most successful coaches first year was a disaster. We finally got a coach that commands the locker room, we got some good players on the field, and adding a quarterback to the team, I believe will seal our Commitment to Excellence. IMO
Bring back Jon gruden!
