Going into the summer months, the Raiders might have the least experienced wide receiver room in all the NFL.
Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker are the only wideouts on the roster with real experience, and right now it doesn’t seem like the decision-makers in Las Vegas are in a hurry to add veteran help at the position.
One of the reasons GM John Spytek probably hasn’t made a move at wide receiver in the last six weeks is because of the two wideouts the team picked up in the draft.
Second-round pick Jack Bech and fourth-round pick Dont’e Thornton have both impressed in offseason activities, and at least one of the two appears to be more developed than had been advertised leading up to the draft.
According to team beat writer Levi Edwards, Thornton has been arguably the best rookie on the team during organized offseason activities.
That’s a big statement from Edwards because the Raiders added a few highly touted rookies in this year’s draft and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty might have been the most dynamic player in the 2025 draft.
It’s still early in the evaluation process, but if the season started today, Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter believes both rookie wide receivers in Las Vegas would be in line for significant roles in Chip Kelly’s offense.
“I’m going to tell you right now, I think if the season started today, your three starters, your three starting wide receivers [would be] Jakobi [Meyers], Jack Bech and Dont’e Thornton,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.
“Now, the season isn’t start today. Training camp is going to have a lot to tell us. But I’m telling you, Dont’e Thornton looks the part, and you can tell by what drills they’re running with him and who he’s running with, that they’re big buyers on him.”
