Raiders Insider Shares Gut Feeling on Kolton Miller Contract Negotiations

Will Kolton Miller and the Raiders reach an agreement on a contract extension before the start of the 2025 season?

Every indication to this point is that the Raiders are content to take their time in negotiations with Miller, but Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter thinks there’s a good chance something will get figured out before the start of the regular season.

“I still get the feeling either right before camp or somewhere close to the season you’re going to see Kolton get done,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.

“Not because I have any insight. I know they’ve talked, but I just can’t imagine the Raiders letting him go,” Carpenter continued. “I understand wanting to get the best deal that they can, but you’re going to send a really bad message to your locker room [by not extending his deal]. If you let [Spillane] go and you let Kolton Miller go… players like to see their teammates getting taken care of who perform.

“Again, a mulligan to [John] Spytek on losing [Spillane]. There won’t be a mulligan on losing Kolton Miller.”

Carpenter has talked on a couple of occasions about the Raiders losing Robert Spillane to the New England Patriots in free agency, and he hasn’t been shy about sharing his opinion.

With all the transition in the Raiders’ front office in recent months, Carpenter believes Spillane’s contract situation was kicked down the road too many times by previous regimes in Las Vegas.

By the time Spytek was hired, free agency was only a matter of weeks away and the price to retain Spillane had gone up significantly.

“It [got] to free agency… and all of a sudden, multiple teams were all in on [Spillane]. Five of the seven teams that I know desperately wanted Robert, I think there were more but I’m only able to confirm seven, were all playoff quality teams,” Carpenter said last month.

“I know this. [Spillane] wanted a deal, and the Raiders could have gotten him for less than what he signed for in New England had they been proactive. [Spillane’s camp] knew kind of where he was going to settle and get paid and where they though is where it ended up. They were willing to take less, but the Raiders were not proactive, and it was a major blunder.”

  1. This ignorance in hanging on and overpaying someone that is playing injured the last two seasons and failing miserably has got to stop.

  2. Aiden needs to be traded. He is a good backup for cheap money. Trade him quickly please. Miller I hear is a mover he can run and he can throw. Keep Touchdown Tommy on special teams and a reserve qb. We will be okay. Bye Bradley goodbye Aiden.
