Yahoo and FOX Sports radio host Jason Fitz is one of the most respected and well-connected Raider fans in sports media, and he was asked about the team’s quarterback situation this week during a segment on the team’s flagship radio station.
While Fitz isn’t hitting the panic button yet, he said his concern for the season is that the Raiders will waste one of their best rosters in recent years on a season where they can’t gain any traction at quarterback.
“If this quarterback situation doesn’t resolve itself, and resolve itself in a very definite way, this season is going to be one of the most frustrating that I’ll ever remember as a Raiders fans,” Fitz said this week on Raider Nation Radio’s Morning Tailgate.
“I keep saying this,” he continued. “I think by the end of the year the Raiders [will] have a top 5 defense in the NFL. I think it can be that good. You cannot waste a year with a top 5 defense and waste another year of Maxx [Crosby], and another year of Davante [Adams], and year of Christian Wilkins, and another year of Kolton Miller. You can’t continue to waste years of players that are right there ready to compete right now simply because you can’t address the quarterback situation and that’s where the team unfortunately is right now.”
While it’s possible that Gardner Minshew or Aidan O’Connell could emerge as a solid starting quarterback, it’s not the worst situation to be a quarterback away from competing for a Super Bowl. There will be options in the offseason if the Raiders are looking for a quarterback and they should have a roster with enough talent to lure one of the better quarterbacks available to Las Vegas… but that’s a conversation for another day.
For now, the Raiders are focused on the development of Minshew and O’Connell and if either quarterback can get a little momentum in Luke Getsy’s offense, the Raiders could be a team that sneaks into the playoff conversation.

Mint Chew will be Fine Once the Real Bullets begin to Fly!!!
Does anyone miss Derek Carr now? When the Raiders had an offensive coordinator with two brain cells, Carr could carry the team. Bill Musgrave knew how to use Carr. And Gruden was doing well before his bigotry came to light.
