Jay Glazer Squashes Rumors Around Russell Wilson and the Raiders

Once it was announced that Pete Carroll was going to be the next head coach of the Raiders, it didn’t take long for the Russell Wilson to Las Vegas rumors to begin swirling.

Carroll and Wilson have an obvious connection going back to their time together with the Seahawks, but according to FOX Sports insider Jay Glazer, Wilson isn’t going to be the next quarterback in Las Vegas.

“That ain’t going to happen,” Glazer said following the mention of Carroll and Wilson potentially getting together for a reunion with the Raiders.

Wilson and Carroll have a complicated relationship going back to their time together in Seattle, but their relationship has reportedly improved in recent years.

In news just as big, Glazer added that he doesn’t think Wilson is going to go back to the Steelers, either. As Pittsburgh sports talk host Andrew Fillipponi pointed out, Glazer’s news is especially hard-hitting for the Steelers because of the FOX insider’s relationship with head coach Mike Tomlin.

Andrew Fillipponi on X (formerly Twitter): “Biggest scoop yet. Jay Glazer says Russell Wilson won’t be back with Steelers. Doesn’t sound bullish on Fields either. FYI-Glazer is Tomlin’s best friend in football media. pic.twitter.com/X4NrCBV5Hx / X”

Elsewhere around the league, Wilson wasn’t the only veteran quarterback making news on Thursday morning.

A series of comments from ESPN’s Adam Schefter pointed towards a strong possibility that veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins is likely be released by the Atlanta Falcons before the start of the new league year.

“This is a situation that looks an awful lot like what Denver and Russell Wilson went through last offseason before Denver decided ultimately to move on from him, when it said it wouldn’t necessarily do that,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said during Wednesday’s NFL Live. “They released him, he wound up signing a one-year deal with a low salary in Pittsburgh, and that’s how I think people across the league believe this situation will unfold with the Falcons releasing Cousins right around the start of the new league year.”

With the emergence of Michael Penix Jr., the Falcons have little reason to sit on Cousins’ four-year, $180 million contract any longer than they have to.

Cousins threw 18 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in his first (and maybe only) year with the Falcons.

At 36 years-old, Cousins is on the backside of his NFL career, but he might be a veteran quarterback option that could keep the seat warm for a developmental QB the Raiders will presumably add in the offseason.
