Jim Nantz on Antonio Pierce: “I’ve Never Seen a Guy That Delivered Such a Powerful Message”

After upsetting the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day, you don’t have to look hard to find a strong statement on Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce.

One of those statements came from Jim Nantz immediately after calling the Raiders’ big win at Arrowhead for CBS Sports.

“I can’t begin to you tell you,” Nantz said at the close of the television broadcast. “We were on a Zoom with him yesterday. We all got off the Zoom call and every one of us said ‘you know what… they have a chance to win this game.’ I’ve never seen a guy that delivered such a powerful message.”

The Raiders have a 4-3 record since Pierce replaced Josh McDaniels, but his losses were all against teams in the playoff hunt. The 3-0 loss to the Vikings was probably the most disappointing loss on Pierce’s resume, but it was also one of the best defensive efforts that we’ve seen from a team all year.

The consensus seems to be that it’s only a matter of time before the Raiders remove the interim label from Pierce’s job title and Tony Romo voiced that sentiment during the broadcast, as well…

“I think he should be the head coach next year,” Romo said. “I think he’s an outstanding coach. He was a great football player. He knows the game at a very high level. He communicates and he creates a culture and you’re seeing that pay dividends right now.”

  1. We finally beat a team with a winning record. First time doing that in years. Coach AP should be the one hired but my Raiders cant get it right so dont hold your breath. AP has earned a shot for at least a 1 year contract. Same for GM and DC. OC is looking sketchy as there is no semblence of consistency but keep in mind our shabby (but improving) OL and slowly improving rookie QB.

  2. I was all for Antonio Pierce for head coach until Romo recommended it! Jk. AP is the man!

  3. We ell if b the Raiders don’t hire Pierce as there coach, I sure hope David Tepper of the Panthers give him the Job

  4. Imagine if they were to hire Champ and Pierce as their GM and HC, And they have a full season to operate. The True Raiders would be back.

  5. Without questions AP, and his team has definitely delivered he speaks no frill language to his Boyz and they believe in who they are PROs, giving their best
.. Mark Davis what would Al do…

  6. If you young boys don’t remember the tape of the autumn wind video….that’s what our defense done to the chiefs…. inflicted pain took what we wanted….Al Davis said…we take what we want…we broke the chiefs…we shell shocked them in mortal combat…deer in the headlights…. country azz whoopin….. Mac Holmes has nightmares of da raiders…

  7. Pierce has put the pride and poise ɓack in the Raiders. I’m a long time fan and it’s been a long time since the Raiders had something going. Pierce is the man for the Raiders.
