Kennedy on Raiders’ Veteran O-Lineman: “Stop Bringing Him in Games”

Lincoln Kennedy knows a few things about playing offensive line at the NFL level and like even those who don’t, he is tired of what he is seeing from the Raiders’ offensive line.

Kennedy offered his thoughts on his former team this week, including a little concern about the long-term future of Kolton Miller.

Miller suffered a high ankle sprain and a hairline fracture in week 4 against the Bears, and Kennedy is starting to wonder how much longer Miller’s body is going to hold up.

“Kolton Miller is their best offensive lineman on the roster, and I think he’s coming to the end of his career. I don’t think he’s going to be playing that much longer after seeing how these injuries have racked up,” Kennedy said on the Locked on Raiders Squad Show podcast.

After Miller, Kennedy believes Jackson Powers-Johnson is the next best player on the Raiders’ offensive line and wants to see the coaching staff and Powers-Johnson start getting on the same page.

For reasons no one seems to know, the coaching staff in Las Vegas has been intent on creating a competition between Powers-Johnson and veteran offensive lineman Alex Cappa.

“[Jackson Powers-Johnson] is your next best lineman and we’re already talking about offensive line play as porous as it’s been. I feel for the young man, because this second-year guy went up against two All Pro defensive tackles back-to-back weeks, and the offense did not give him any help,” Kennedy said. “They did not address the situation that you had All Pros at defensive tackle. Hey, let’s help out our young guard by doing some things differently. Some tandem blocks, try to put it on those defensive tackles.”

“I don’t know what’s going on in the locker room with JPJ. I really don’t. But you cannot get rid of him. He is going to be the main stay, the main focal point for you, the future of this offensive line on this Raider team and you have to build around that,” Kennedy continued.

“But he also has to be on the field. So whatever JPJ is doing to keep himself off the field or whatever, he’s getting into in the locker room, whatever is happening needs to be ironed out and fixed because Alex Cappa is not the answer. So stop bringing him in games. I don’t know what’s going on, but they got to stop bringing him in games. He’s not the answer. You need to figure out what’s going out with your second-best offensive line and keep him keep him happy.”

RAIDERS SQUAD SHOW: Las Vegas RAIDERS Bye Week | Pete Carroll’s Locker Room is being TESTED

The Las Vegas Raiders hit the bye week with more questions than answers. What’s the true identity of this team under Pete Carroll and Chip Kelly? With trade rumors swirling around Jakobi Meyers and Maxx Crosby, will the front office make any bold moves before the deadline?

  1. Let me repeat… The Raaiders Do NOT Have a Offensive line Coach or should I say the one that collects the check for that Title is Offensive to O-Line Coaches EVERYWHERE. And, of course, Big Daddy backs Baby Boy over any reasonable evaluation of personnel and scheme… As Always – Just my Never to be Humble Opinion

    1. So correct. They keep signing retread free agents who are not going to help. Carroll is stuck in the past while spending cap dollars for useless free agents.

    2. Yur right brother, I don’t like the father son deal, it’d be different if one worked in the front office, where he’s not under Poppa Pete’s purview, but this situation isn’t ideal at all, it’s almost as if Spytek would have to say,’either he goes, or you both go’

  2. I’d love it if Big Linc would come coach for the raiders he definitely has the knowledge of the position & understands how to fix the current situation
