Raiders (Soon to Be) Head Coach Bought Bibles for Every Player and Coach on the Seahawks

The Raiders have identified their soon-to-be next head coach, and on Tuesday their soon-to-be next head coach identified his favorite question of the week at the Super Bowl.

Asked about the importance of his faith by Sports Spectrum’s Jason Romano, Kubiak didn’t mince words and said his identity comes from his faith in Jesus.

“This is my favorite question of the night. I’m glad I got to talk to you guys. I’ve learned from many chaplains that I’ve gotten to be around [with] different teams that your identity is not in your job. Your identity is in Christ,” Kubiak told Romano.

“When I learned that, and I spent more time in the Word from all the mentors I had in coaching that helped me get into Bible studies and read the Word every day, it took a really heavy load off just knowing that I’m a child of God and football is something that I do, but trying to be a good father and be a faithful husband is way more important than any of that.”

For a Christmas gift to the team, Romano said he was told Kubiak bought Bibles for every Seahawks player and coach.

Kubiak acknowledged the gesture and explained why he was moved to do it.

“Because that’s the most important thing,” Kubiak said. “I don’t know who told you that, but totally you’re in trouble right now. But you’re trying to find Christmas gifts for guys every year to show them that you love them, and what better gift than that?”

Seattle assistant head coach Leslie Frazier talked about Kubiak’s gift to the players and coaches, and said it meant a lot to everyone.

“You talking about touching people across our team? That is so unique and so rare,” Frazier told Sports Spectrum.

“It meant a lot. It meant a lot to everybody in our building, just that he would do that. His whole point of it was he wanted everybody to be able to find out what it means to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. This is the starting point, having a Bible. No one should walk away from this building without having a Bible.”

The Raiders cannot officially sign Kubiak until after the Super Bowl, but every indication is that it’s essentially a done deal that only needs Kubiak’s signature on the Monday after the big game.

  1. Kubiak is grounded and anchored in what matters man, but haters will hate IF the light hurts their eyes.
This game and sport, which is a bottom line buisness, will test: players, coaches and everyone in football operations to the core of their being. I am glad we have a Coach who can see beyond the idol of football and fleeting success. In Las Vegas their are many traps for a young man with money and freedom for the first time, just ask Henry Ruggs or a few other players who have been in legal trouble here. The first year we hired a Chaplin, under Jon Gruden in 2002, we won the AFC championship and had a great year. Since then we have had a number of Chaplins whose work has really helped these young men see behind the curtain and the smoke and mirrors of NFL hype. Our chaplins have helped our players develop a vision for their careers and beyond the shortest of all lived sports, football. The before and after stats of teams player involved incidents with or without a Chaplin are dramatic. It is the reason many teams continue to employ them, as well as a benevolent concern for the players over all well being. Kubiak is down with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, even Jesus who is God. (Read the book of John ya’hh). How else would one, could one, reverse the curse which is seemingly upon this team?

    1. Did Madden, Flores or Al Davis buy bibles for all the players? Believe in whatever you want to believe but don’t evangelize to everyone, religion should be kept private. Religion and politics should definitely be kept off sport related sites.

  2. Light hurts their eyes?
    Too funny.
If you need a cult to bolster your mental stability, that’s fine. But don’t try to sell it to anyone else.

    1. You must have been a Carr hater. It will be interesting how the rest of the Carr haters will react🤔

      1. How could you be a fan boy to a guy that went and cried when he got sacked and always look for a place to turtle up in the pocket?
Or a guy that was legitimately nicknamed king of the back foot rainbows, or Charlie check down?
Cart lover? He was a fantasy football God. Finding the end zone was like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow with him.

  3. Really? What if his players were Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, atheists or agnostic? Do they not count?

Are they all heathens? Soon to traded lost souls?

    1. Totally agree. And when you get a group of highly religious players that gather together, they make the others feel guilty of something. I experienced this firsthand so I’m not talking about my arse.
Totally agree with you on this one Mike
