Unless less something unforeseen develops, Maxx Crosby will be with the Raiders when the season begins, but it seems like both sides (Crosby and the Raiders) might be open to revisiting a trade ahead of the trade deadline depending on how the first half of the season plays out.
If the Raiders get off to a slow start in Klint Kubiak’s first season, Los Angeles beat writer Nate Atkins believes the Rams will be a team to watch for Crosby at the trade deadline.
“I’d also keep an eye on Maxx Crosby. He seems to have mended things with the Las Vegas Raiders after the trade to the Baltimore Ravens was reversed, but the organization’s approach could change if the Raiders hit another tough start to a season,” Atkins reported at The Athletic on Thursday.
“The Rams want to be one of the rare teams willing to trade from an expectedly loaded 2027 draft class, with the idea that they’ll be picking at the very end of the first round. But those conversations are more likely in October than they are right now.”
Last month, Raider Nation Radio host Q Myers said he didn’t expect Crosby to be traded before the draft but said he thought Crosby’s trade value would spike again in October.
“Two things can be true. First of all, [teams] will try to low ball the Raiders [for Maxx Crosby], but I think that John Spytek has already proven that he’s going to stand his ground and say, ‘Look, if you want my best player, you’re going to have to pay a king’s ransom for him,” Myers said on the Locked on Raiders Squad Show podcast.
“I also think that deadlines push deals. I think the trade deadline will increase his value because the team will get desperate [and say] ‘We need 98.’ They’ll be late [first round] picks and a team might do that. A team might offer that. I think that that’s what’s going to happen,” Myers continued.
“I still honestly don’t believe he’s going to get traded, but I know those conversations will definitely happen leading up to the trade deadline. Especially if a team like Dallas is successful. A team like Buffalo feels like they’re really close. Teams like that. It won’t be some scrub team. It’ll be like the Bears all of a sudden are having a really good year… That’s how I envision this thing playing out. Some team that feels like that they’re that one edge away from being over the top. And that’s the one that’s going to go try to make a move right before the trade deadline.”
Going into the draft, the Rams were on the short list of teams that believed they had a legitimate shot at getting Crosby, and there’s no reason to believe they won’t be aggressive in their efforts to trade for him in the fall – especially if they aren’t satisfied with their pass rush.
As for the Raiders, it isn’t clear how committed they are to holding on to their star pass rusher this time around.
If they were willing to trade him once, it’s hard to imagine they wouldn’t be open to doing it again.
