Are the Raiders and Cowboys in discussions about a trade involving Maxx Crosby?
Not long after the Ravens backed out of the deal for Crosby in March, a report surfaced saying the Cowboys had been the team with the next best offer on the table for the Raiders’ star pass rusher.
“The Raiders had two teams willing to swing for the fence here; the Cowboys and the Ravens,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said the day after the Baltimore deal was announced.
“The Ravens were willing to give up the two first-round picks, the Cowboys simply were not and I was told the Cowboys were low key devastated. They really wanted Maxx Crosby. They were eyeing him for months, but they just had a tipping point. It was a first-round pick and a second-round pick. They tried to involve a veteran player or two to sweeten the deal. The Raiders didn’t want to that. They simply wanted the youth and the draft picks.”
At the time, the report didn’t seem like a big deal because the assumption was that Crosby was headed to the Ravens. It felt like the Cowboys were just letting their fans know they tried their best to get Crosby.
But six weeks later, Crosby is still with the Raiders and there are some who believe his status with the organization hasn’t changed as much as the team and player have been letting on.
It’s now the day of the draft and league insider Trey Wingo made an interesting series of statements this morning, and it seems clear he believes the Raiders and Cowboys are still in discussions about a trade involving Crosby.
“Speaking of the Cowboys, let me throw a scenario at you,” Wingo said.
“I’m not saying this is a conversation they are having in Frisco, but I’m also not saying it’s not a conversation they’re having in Frisco,” Wingo continued. “Would you be willing to trade the 12th and 20th pick in the first round to the Raiders for Maxx Crosby?”
“This would be hilarious on some level, right? If this were to transpire. All the drama and Maxx is a Raven. Well, he’s not. Welcome back, Maxx, we love you and we’re shipping you off again. That would be wild.”
Obviously, Wingo isn’t saying a trade is going to happen, but it at least sounds like the Crosby conversation between the Cowboys and Raiders hasn’t been put to rest.
And for anyone interested in a few more distant dots to connect, FOX Sports insider Jay Glazer made a comment on Wednesday that adds a little intrigue to Wingo’s comments.
From the start, no one has been more plugged into the Crosby situation than Glazer and he mentioned on Wednesday that he knows “something is happening” on Thursday night but said he isn’t able to talk about it until the team involved is on the clock.
“I know something is happening. I just can’t say it yet. I was told I can’t say it until we are getting on the clock.”
