Mark Davis is the happiest he has been with the football operation in Las Vegas since Jon Gruden was with the team from 2018-2021.
The Raiders might not be winning, but Davis believes he finally has the right people in place to turn around the organization.
Speaking to members of the media after Pete Carroll’s press conference on Monday, Davis talked about Tom Brady being the missing person in the building since Gruden resigned in 2021.
“Bringing in Tom Brady was bringing in somebody on the football side that I had been lacking having here in the organization,” Davis said on Monday.
“Back in I guess it was ’18 with Jon Gruden, he was somebody that I brought in and really expected to be that person on the football side that would bring stability to the organization,” Davis continued. “He had a 10-year contract and all that, and his head was chopped off. And we were put in a really bad position as an organization.”
Gruden has not returned to coaching since 2021 when Davis was essentially forced by the league to remove him after offensive and inappropriate emails were leaked to the media.
It still isn’t known who leaked the Gruden emails or why none of the other 650,000 emails uncovered in the Washington Football Team investigation were released.
Obviously, Gruden was targeted by someone, but his legal proceedings against the NFL haven’t gained a lot of traction in the 2+ years since his lawsuit was filed.
Gruden filed suit in November of 2021 and is still seeking reimbursement for the damages done to his career by the release of the emails. In his lawsuit, Gruden alleges the NFL forced him to resign by leaking the emails that destroyed his coaching and media career, as well as the majority of his endorsements.
After more than two years of twists and turns, the lawsuit remains tied up in the Nevada court system.
Gruden did get a small victory in court in November, and you can learn more about that ruling in the ProFootballTalk video below…

I don’t condone JGs emails. But I also don’t condone the outing of one person by an outfit run by people doing the same things all day long. That’s not just and not right. Eff God ell and the No Fidelity League.
Mark Davis was too weak to stand by Jon Gruden and the slander manufactured by Roger Goo*ell in a personal vendetta which used the weaponized politics of the hour against him. Jon Gruden will win his ongoing law suit proving this, however difficult this is to do in Nevada. Mark Davis’ father Al Davis was virtually undefeated versus the NFL in court. Al Davis would have told that mail room boy Goo*ell where to take his B.S. and that he would see him in court, but Mark is too weak for that. (Picture Markey at the NFL owners meeting shortly after this wearing: his bowl hair cut, white starters jacket, blue jeans and a back pack.) The only thing he was missing was a Scoobo Doo lunch pail and a beanie with a twirler on top.) You can not fix stupid and you can’t buy: common sense, strength or conviction. Mark Davis must sell his stake and move out of the way because his incompetence has ruined this legacy team.
WEST SiDE; Pretty harsh response. I think you’re on track with your sentiment, MD should have had the balls to stand by his coach/aka only football brain he could trust, apparently. Mark is a mere shadow of his old man, but the league is a bigger beast now, it just **** out a Daniel Snyder, Markie would be wet fart compared to that guy’s financial clout. Also consider, Al did beat the league but don’t think that didn’t have adverse lasting effects. Especially when Al dropped the ball in LA and went back to Oakland with his tail between his legs. Gruden already lost his gig, he’s outside the realm, getting his NFL fix at BarStool, he should settle, public victories are shallow and less rewarding. Brian Flores, Colin Kapernick, yes they won, too!
I still believe that the Gruden assasination was Horrific. In 3 years Gruden had put together a Playoff Caliber Team – they were just getting Started. I believe that Mark should have told the Anti-Christ, Commissioner BadAll, to F Off. His Father would. Mark was no dobt worried that if he continued to Stand up against the Evil Empire that They would have Dan Snydered him. The League has Never liked Mark and would LOve to Steal the Franchise that is a Financial Bright Star and Give it to a Legit Multi-Billionaire Friend – Like Bezos. BadAll loves the VERY rich ones…
I don’t blame him. Started that season 3-0, rebuilt the culture. Then accusations, removal, leading receiver, Ruggs, tragedy, downward spiral. Washington and the NFL successfully deflected a completely different investigation.
LOL
If Groden would have let Mayock take care of personnel, he would’ve had better results. But now that he was publicly humiliated and exposed himself to just what a degenerate he is, he’s done. Stick a fork in him. And Davis is an idiot for sticking with him. It’s really too bad the entire good old boys club didn’t get exposed. But the NFL was gunning for Davis and the Raiders and Gruden.
NFL ordered a hit on Gruden. What a disgrace. We were turning things around. It proves how much the league hates the Raiders.
In the meantime, we should give Chip Kelly a call about the OC position.
LOL @ philly’s man crush on chipper.
You must’ve cried when the eagles fired him
No, but his offense was revolutionary. So much so that the league and it’s refs did everything they could to prevent him from running it the way he wanted to.
He’s the best choice if he’s willing to come here and the Raiders are willing to extend a phone call.
With Bevell and Carroll oir offense will be run, run, run, punt.
With a largely terrible O line. Kolton Miller was horrible this year. Parham got ran over by the better DTs in the league as did Andre James.
We clearly need to upgrade the O line massively.
Totally agree that our offensive line was truly offensive this season. It absolutely needs to be the focal point of this off-season.
Especially Kolton Miller.
Yes it does. That’s being said, if he’s there at 6, we absolutely should be taking Abdul Carter.
Then target O line after. One guy that we ABSOLUTELY NEED AND SHOULD GET this off-season is Mekhi Becton from the Eagles.
How would you like a 360 pounder opening lanes a mile wide?
I guess he wasn’t TOO upset. Otherwise, why didn’t he rehire Gruden instead of Carroll??? Maybe the fact that the team was mediocre under Gruden, and the fact that he squandered so many draft picks! Mark is just too dumb to realize that the league did him a favor by forcing the Gruden resignation. Never should have hired a guy that had been out of coaching for 12 years. Hopefully Brady can steer Davis in the right direction because that’s our only hope!
Off topic here, but please don’t draft Milroe at quarterback, he’s got bust written all over him!
There isn’t a Q in this draft that screams first or second rounder.
Especially with all our needs.
Oh good lord, if any average worker had those emails come out from a work email account, they’d be out of a job too, just a lot poorer for it.
Stability? His first move was trading a DPOY in his prime because he refused to play on his 5th year option, something no other player would do under those circumstances. Or maybe his first move was getting Mark Davis to sacrifice his “zero tolerance” for DV (a cause he attributed to the Belitnikoffs) by hiring Cable. He then proceeded to win a power play with Reggie McKenzie, and be involved in some of the worst first round picks in recent memory (they were considered bad at the time, no hindsight needed). And despite all the resources, he topped out as a .500 coach. He didn’t do a good job. He got outed for making bigoted remarks on a corporate email. But he was Mark’s friend, and Mark doesn’t have many
Trading Mack was the smartest things he did. We’d still be bleeding money and have an average production player. He only plays hard against us. Dudes a zero. Get over it.
Agreed. His drafts were historically bad, plus giving a $100 million guaranteed contract for a coach 12 years removed from coaching was plain stupid. This just highlights Mark’s stupidity. Maybe getting Brady to make run the football side will payoff?
