Are the Raiders considering trading away another All-Pro pass rusher?
It might seem unthinkable, but when Maxx Crosby and the Raiders agreed to a new deal in the offseason, it was clear from the structure that both sides were leaving the door open for a trade – even as soon as this season.
Now, according to ESPN’s Trey Wingo, the Dallas Cowboys have reached out to the Raiders about a potential trade for Crosby, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones could very well be an owner who would be willing to give up multiple first-round picks for a player like Crosby.
Adding to Wingo’s report on Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said he believes the Cowboys are going to be aggressive in their search for an impact player on defense ahead of the trade deadline.
“I would say that the Dallas Cowboys are having conversations about the moves that they can make before the trade deadline to try to improve that defense just like Jerry Jones said that they could and would once they traded Micah Parsons,” Schefter said on the Adam Schefter Podcast.
“I’m not telling you that they’ll be able to pull anything off, but I will not be surprised if we hear Dallas at the very least inquiring about the availability of various defensive players and ultimately trading for one before the November 4th trade deadline.”
Crosby is the heart and soul of the Raiders’ locker room, and it would take a massive trade offer to pry him away from the desert, but there’s no question the decision makers in Vegas are willing to listen to offers.
This OverTheCap graphic (below) shows the dead money consequence and future cap savings if Crosby is traded ahead of June 1. It’s rare that a $30+ million per year contract comes with so much flexibility, particularly this early in the deal.
If we’ve learning nothing else about the Raiders in the first two months of the season, it’s that they aren’t headed to the Super Bowl anytime soon.
Crosby will be 29 at the start of next season and has dealt with a long list of injuries in the last two years.
With a new regime running the show in Las Vegas, it’s possible that Tom Brady and company will decide to do a full reset in the offseason and that could mean letting go of a player like Crosby.
And if Crosby doesn’t survive the 2025 season in Vegas, who’s to say the coaching staff and everyone else associated with the Raiders will be definitely safe?

Jerry just may pull it off. He wants a SB, badly!
He’s not been the same since before he got hurt last season. Two first round picks and a quality player says do the deal.
Davis won’t do the deal. Markey Davis does not want to see Maxx in a Cowboys uniform when the Raiders play the Cowboys on Monday night in Vegas in November.
Jerry is like Al was. Bar **** crazy. If he’s willing to give up three firsts and an OL who cares. We’re going to lose that game anyway
Why would Maxx want to deal with Jerry and his clown show? I could see him wanting to go to the 49ers, but I cannot imagine him agreeing to go to the Cowboys. If Maxx agreed to be traded, it would be to a team that had an inkling of a chance to get into postseason and the Super Bowl.
Jerry isn’t an idiot. He was the one that got us to Vegas & he knows Mark is a moron. Maxx would go to them as he should. 2 firsts at a minimum though
Good. If the cowboys offer 2 number 1’s and 1 number 2, I say goodbye. the raiders aren’t winning with him, so trading him would be good. However I don’t trust the GM Spyrek. Look who he drafted this year.
