The Raiders finally offered an update on Christian Wilkins foot and the news wasn’t particularly encouraging.
Going back to last month, there have been conflicting reports around Wilkins’ surgically repaired foot, but it’s become clearer in recent days that there was definitely a setback that occurred at some point in the last few months.
Speaking with members of the media on Wednesday afternoon after voluntary workouts, Raiders head coach Pete Carroll said it’s been a “challenging process” with Wilkins’ foot, but didn’t offer any specific details on the situation.
“He’s not ready to get back out,” Carroll said. “We’re in the midst of a long, challenging process. So fortunately, there’s a lot of time.”
According to ESPNs Ryan McFadden, Wilkins didn’t practice or participate in any drills on Wednesday.
Looking back, it sounds like league insider Tony Pauline has been getting good information on Wilkins for last several weeks.
“I’m told there is serious concern over a foot injury Christian Wilkins has been dealing with since last season,” Pauline reported in the hours leading up to the draft, adding that there is concern Wilkins could end up missing a portion of the 2025 season, as well.
“As I mentioned right before the draft, there’s a problem with Christian Wilkins’ foot. He may need another procedure,” Pauline said again two weeks ago.
All things considered, it doesn’t sound like Wilkins is a lock to be ready for the 2025 season and given how slowly the healing process has played out to this point, it would be interesting to know what the worst-case scenario might be if the injury continues to drag out.

It figures. The talent is there. The contract was given and he’s not available.
Not much more that one game out of him.
What a mess. To spend that much on a guy to get virtually nothing from him so far, especially for a team trying to come up with little depth, is devastating.
