Report: Raiders’ Former 1st-Round Pick on the Trade Block

With the Raiders’ loss to the Jaguars on Sunday, they fell to 2-6 on the season and with the season circling the drain, a few more players have been discussed as possible trade candidates.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport mentioned Malcolm Koonce as someone the Raiders might be willing to trade and according to Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer, one of their former first-round picks could be on the move, as well.

“One interesting name on the trade block that I didn’t mention in my Friday notes is former No. 7 pick pick Tyree Wilson,” Breer reported on Monday. “He’s clearly not what Vegas hoped for in 2023, but there’s still some promise for the 25-year-old as a supersized edge who can bump inside and rush on passing downs.”

Since he was drafted with the seventh-overall pick in 2023, Wilson has entered every season with high expectations, and after three years it sounds like the Raiders are finally willing to move on from him.

Based on reports over the years, Wilson has been a hard worker and done everything the right way, but for some reason hasn’t been able to live up to his draft position.

Wilson has not emerged from his role as a rotational player and has only played 45 percent of the Raiders’ defensive snaps this year – primarily in pass rushing situation where he has only two sacks and 14 quarterback pressures in 247 defensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus analytics.

It’s hard to guess what kind of trade value Wilson might have. He has plenty of potential and potentially two more years on his rookie contract if a team chooses to activate the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.

But with so little production over the first three years of his career, it will probably be hard to get more than a fifth-round pick for Wilson.

Maybe somebody will want him, though.

Former Raiders’ GM Dave Ziegler is the executive that drafted Wilson in 2023. Maybe Ziegler or Josh McDaniels will want to reunite with their first and only first-round pick together?

The trade deadline is 4:00 EST on November 4, so the Raiders have less than 24 hours to figure out if they want to initiate a fire sale with the roster or hold on to a few players that were supposed to be a part of the success that doesn’t seem to be coming in 2025.

  1. Unless they can get a third – keep him… he can still break out and still has two lucrative rookie contract year left… and for some reason – in the fourth year of a Rookie deal, it seems that they come alive!!! Not on purpose – it is just the subconscious desire for a Big Payday…

  2. If there was any justice New England should be forced to give us a 1st round pick. Patriot West had to draft that moron
