Following the Raiders 25-24 loss to the Bears on Sunday, one of the big takeaways from the game was that rookie wide receiver Jack Bech needs more opportunities on the field.
Bech only played five snaps against the Bears while fellow rookie wideout Dont’e Thornton played 57 snaps and did not record a catch.
Following the game, head coach Pete Carroll was asked about Bech’s lack of playing time and he agreed that five plays wasn’t enough.
“We just need to get him out there more… he’s ready for it,” Carroll said on Monday.
Later in the week, the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vinny Bonsignore talked about Bech’s limited role in the first month of the season, and he believes Carroll’s comments weren’t just ‘coach speak.’
“A guy that I would keep an eye on real quick is Jack Bech. I think Pete Carroll made it pretty clear that he wants Jack Bech more in the rotation,” Bonsignore said on the Vegas Nation podcast.
“It sounds like Pete wants Jack Bech out there, and when the head coach is saying make sure that happens, I would think that maybe we’re going to see a little bit of action,” Bonsignore continued. “The rotation is basically overseen by the positional coach. So, Pete made it pretty clear that he wants that to change. We’ll see what that means for Jack Besh’s numbers this week.”
“I’ve got my eye on that, because usually when the head coach says stuff like that, you make it a point to make it work.”

It’s about time. Thornton has done nothing.
With Bowers being limited with his knee injury this guy can help with the short and intermediate routes. Although I don’t see teams being worried about him getting behind the coverage on deep routes. Looks like Turner will be the deep option when Bech is in.
