The Raiders are going to add at least two quarterbacks between now and the end of April, but there hasn’t been a lot shared on who they would like to sign, draft or potentially trade for.
One of the only firm reports around the Vegas quarterback situation came from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who believes the Raiders will have interest in Sam Darnold if the Minnesota quarterback gets to free agency.
“I think the Raiders are going to make a play for Sam Darnold,” Schefter said on the Pat McAfee Show earlier in the month. “I think Sam Darnold is a candidate to be the Raiders quarterback. Let’s see if Minnesota lets him go or not. Let’s see if that works out with Darnold winding up in Vegas.”
Darnold is expected to cost upwards of $40 million per year on the open market and the brain trust in Las Vegas would presumably have reservations over the idea of paying him that much.
If the Raiders aren’t excited about the free agent options on the table at quarterback (or the cost that might come with those options), they could also pursue a trade, and Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter said this week that there are two names he has heard as potential trade options. He didn’t name the quarterbacks, but in a later podcast episode he shared the quarterback he thinks the Raiders should pursue with a trade.
In his weekly Q and A podcast session, this was the question posed to Carpenter by a listener…
If you were the Raiders and you could trade for a quarterback, realistically, we know Joe Burrow is not getting traded… Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes [are not getting traded]. But if you could make a realistic trade for someone, who would you like to see the Raiders make a trade for?
“J.J. McCarthy,” Hondo said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast. “That’s who I’d like to see them make a trade for. I think [McCarthy] would be a great addition to the Raiders. But again, price has to be right.”
The news here isn’t necessarily who an NFL media personality thinks Tom Brady and company should trade for, but instead, the fact that Carpenter believes McCarthy could be a realistic trade option.
Many believe the Vikings aren’t willing to trade McCarthy and a Minnesota beat writer reported last month that the Vikings would not be trading the former first-round quarterback.
If the Vikings are willing to listen to offers for McCarthy, which Carpenter seems to think it might be a possibility, the Raiders should be the first team in line to see what the cost would be.
Considering the ties Brady has to the University of Michigan and McCarthy’s resume leading up to their national championship in 2024, it’s hard to imagine Brady wouldn’t be interested in finding a way to bring McCarthy to Las Vegas if the opportunity is on the table.

No matter what you report or speculate, it will totally be false once the decisions are made.
I can make all sorts of predictions and I have no contacts in sports and still be closer to their transactions than you all.
Bout **** time somebody said it. All these bs predictions do, is piss off the morons. Then comes the avalanche of pretenders following suit. F-ing get a job.
I’m going to say this until I’m blue in the face.
Forget giving up resources to acquire a QB.
Build the team in the draft and stick with Aidan for a year.
R1 Mike Green EDGE Marshall
R2 Kaleb Johnson RB Iowa
Aiden is horrible, they’re better off trying to catch fire with Zach Wilson, D Jones or J Fields if they don’t go the Darnold route. I prefer they sign the Queefs guard & gamble on Dart…
Hondo is just making stuff up again. I’m glad Raiders beat reports this guy, cuz he says the dumbest things.
Give up assests to get Wilson, Jones, or Fields? 🤣 😂 🤣
That’s nuts. I ain’t giving up nothing for them.
I’d rather stick with Aidan for a year and build the rest of team around him for a season.
No to acquiring any QB this season if it means we give up assets.
R1 Mike Green
R2 Kaleb Johnson
Free Agency Mekhi Becton
…!..
🤮
🤮 another day another meaningless story. Try and do some real sports reporting period. Where do you draw up these headlines from?
