Raiders May Need To “Up Their Offer” To NaVorro Bowman

The Raiders may not have followed their draft board to perfection, but they at least addressed a number of teams needs in the draft.

One position that was remarkably ignored (again) was inside linebacker.

Some thought that maybe with Jon Gruden in the mix, the Raiders would deviate from their “avoid inside linebackers at all costs in the early rounds” strategy of the past six years.

They did not, and according to The Athletic’s Vic Tafur, the Raiders will probably have to up their offer to free agent linebacker NaVorro Bowman.

Bowman, who was one of the Raiders best defenders in 2017 (which isn’t saying a lot), may be holding out for more money, but he was also probably keeping tabs on the draft as he surely hasn’t forgotten the way the 49ers drafted him out of a job a year ago.

It looks like a reunion is bound to happen between Bowman and the Raiders as both seem to need each other at this point.

    1. Your an idiot Another fool who knows how to solve all the teams issues. Go to your job at Mickey D,s and learn how to shut your cakehole.

      1. You’re (Basic **** here dude)
Mickey D’s (You literally used a comma)

Pretty sure with those run on sentences and lack of basic grammar, you should probably work at McDonalds too. Night Shift Assistant Supervisor has a bitchin’ ring to it.

        1. Tim! Be nice! I happen to know for a fact from my teen years that the night shift Asst. Supervisor at Mickey D’s is required to know grammar. I just don’t want you to offend all of those teens that do . b-)

    2. Anthony, you listen to critics too much. Make your own assessment. To believe you know the Raiders “messed up” the draft is comical. You don’t know sh!t about drafting. Just what these so called experts say. Quit being a sheep.

    3. Seems to me these so called experts have a grudge against the Raiders, and are critical of almost every move they make. This was a really solid draft with all likelihood that , HURST, Hall, and Key are major difference makers and I believe that Ateman will prove to be a still on the offensive side. Stop listening to the haters, No teams picks have done anything yet,and the Raiders picks has just as good a chance as any to be productive. Just Win Baby!

    4. If you think that was a bad draft then you have absolutely no idea as a Raiders fan.

    5. Glad to see you guys defending my squad. And not all Raider Fans are dipshits, yea the ones that sit down on defense, and tell you down in front?? Then stand up and cheer on offense- dummies.

If you watch tape on our 1st round tackle— he has amazing quick footwork. Check out P.J. Hall- absolute beast. Just wait
#52 got that inside presence. Now we just need a vet linebacker to get us lined up a la Greg Beikert—or Romanowski

  1. The Raiders will take care of Bowman, they have to. For them to pass on the talent that was avaiable, that had to be what they were thinking..Gruden & McKenzie did what will turn out to be a great job of acquiring the best player available or moving players to land a specific need. The Kicking game was addressed perfectly and i thought they would wait until closer to camp.

  2. What about drafting a RB? A position that was deep in the draft and not 1 pick for a RB. We have 2 aging backs and 2 unproven backs.

    1. ANY RB taken in the draft is also ‘unproven’. There was only 20 RB’s taken in the draft out of the 94 ‘ranked’ RB and 6 of those 20 were in the 6th and 7th rounds (3 each). There is a reason for that and now we will look at the waiver wire, the cut sheet, the trade line and the list of available ‘for free’ RB to come in and compete with 5 RB that we have under contract. RB is NOT a problem with us this year.

      1. My bad i posted early I meant to say Marshawn Lynch is holding Richard, & Washington back & slowing our offense down big time

    2. Marshawn Lynch held back Jalen Richard, & DeAndre Washington, we didn’t need no more RB . We would be a better team if Lynch wasn’t there, it would open up our offense cause both Richard & Washington are good catching passes out da back field & their good getting yard’s in the running game

      1. Lynch ain’t holding **** back. Richard and Washington are nothing more than scat/change of pace backs and wont even probably be around much longer. They’re nothing special not lead backs at all so quit it with that holding back nonsense. Lynch gives us the best chance to win point blank period!

    3. Would have liked a couple of RB prospect to choose from but there just bigger needs at both OT and DL.

Lynch will be the man next year. Mighty mouse the relief back.

Only Washington or Richard will make the team.

Hood might be on the practice squad for another year.

More likely to get a RB in the 2019 draft if current guys dont cut it.

Gruden will want a RB that can catch passes to team up with Carr’s strenght. Like Charlie Garner/Faulk skill set. That would be amazing in his scheme.

    4. Running backs are dime a dozen these days. I promise there will be more next year…

  3. solid job all the way around. Coaching is gonna be the biggest difference this year! Raiders added some good talent!

  4. I think the draft was great for the Raiders. We got Hurst and Key who were essentially two top 10 players that just needs to be healthy and focus.
Everyone had Kolton Miller penciled in to the Patriots before the end of the first.
Two small school OL and DL to help solidify dept.
    CB and Punter also upgraded.
Two for two veteran WR weapons for Carr.

Bowman is the final key to make this defense very dangerous. Tie the knot and get Bowman back!

  5. As a loyal Raider fan for many years… I am confused by most of the offseason moves the RAIDERS have done…. To top it off on the first couple of days of the 2018 Draft not selecting a true impact players to what was needed in 2017 season… we find ourselves in the same situation as last year… deciding if we should resign a LB that came in an help on Defense to get better while they were on the team… I for one agree that when our new coaching staff came in there was a need for some minor changes… but not too the point the staff has gone. Going back 2 years ago the team finish the season at 12 – 4… due to offseason changes again, management or the coaching staff made the wrong decision by not renewing our OC and making someone else with no OC experience the guy to run of offense… very bad choice and I believe that’s what cost our last head coach his job and totally losing control of his team.

    1. I like Todd downing but we were way to predictable. If u prefer Todd D over Gruden though— I think you may still be hurt from the super bowl he snatched from Rich Gannon. Trust me I was confused too… but they have a plan – I trust. wait until November to start grading draft classes and Free agents acquisitions. No body wins anything in May.
A lot of work to be done…

    1. When the Raider went 12-4 we had Bill Musgrave as an OC then Del Rio fired him and signed Todd Downing for the 6-10. The whole season collapse was not his fault but he is no offensive coordinator and there was NO WAY anybody would keep him. We now have Greg Olson (31 years experience), coached with the Raiders in 2013-2014 (2014 with Carr). Last season he guided the Rams to a rebirth as their QB coach. I think that you might have missed your mark on the staff—– by A LOT.

        1. My point was that, as Carr himself said, coach O will be a good bridge in terminology and scheme between the old and the new. Carr has seen 4 different OC in 5 years. coach O’s current job title is OC but we all know that his position is the liaison between all of the offensive assistant coaches and the TRUE OC …… coach Gruden. He’ll be just fine and my money is that he’ll be in the sky box during games.

  7. They stink the draft as you pick the best player and they addressed there needs except linebacker with high upsides but maybe with character issues something they had avoided recently. To move down in the draft and getting someone with” potential” is not a good look, also just read about Donald Penn domestic violence problem that may not amount to anything but your replacement may not work.

  8. Not sure what is going on with Bowman – it is not like anybody else is swooping in to take him and there was a lot of LB’s taken in the draft, but nobody seems to be offering him a spot.

  9. Paul Guenther and Lippincott probably believe they can coach guys up. Vontaze Burfict went undrafted and didn’t run fast at all during the pre draft process and there are reports he ran over a 5 in the 40. Nick Vigil was a third round pick from The two starters with the Bengals Vontaze Burfict and Nick Vigil was a third rounder from Utah State. I cannot recall them drafting a linebacker in the first round since they took Brian Simmons and Takeo Spikes well before Marvin Lewis got there. Guenther has done an excellent job in coaching up linebackers and I expect that to continue during his time with the Raiders no matter if they’re drafted or signed in free agency.

  10. they got impact players in draft: Hurst ( maybrbfor just one year or two) and Key. The lineman are necessary with Penns age and no real RT.
    time will tell.

  11. Raiders draft was c+ /b- some early reaches for good players and some good late round talent taken. Only miss was no inside backer taken. Makes the signing of bowman that much more important

  12. Azeem Victor is an animal on the field he had some off the field issues this pst season in Washington but don’t act like this kid wasn’t a preseason all American and the PAC 12 best linebacker add Azeem’s animal instincts with Guenther coaching he’ll be a pro bowler

  13. It’s funny how these ” talking heads ” on TV talk about how good or bad a team’s draft went when they haven’t seen what these kids can do in an NFL game . There are no guarantees that a ” sexy ” pick will have a hall of fame career any more than there are that small school prospects or guys without NFL intangibles won’t have one . Howie Long went to Villanova and wasn’t highly thought of by draft ” experts “. Not every player needs to have All Pro ability . It really comes down to how good a player wants to be and how good their coaching at the next level is . Most NFL players aren’t Pro Bowl players but a lot of them are good , solid football players which is what most teams operate with . If a guy can do his job the way he’s asked to do it , that’s a guy most NFL coaches would kill to have . I believe our of the 9 players Oakland drafted that there are 3 that will fit into that description and 1 that will turn out to be one of the best at his position.

  14. They got position in need. They didn’t get the sexy pick b/c they had more pressing needs. I think they did B- in this draft and came up with 2 top 15 players in the draft in the later rounds. I get one has character issues and the other midcal but Reggie pretty good with his medical staff and making sure this won’t be problem later on. So for the common fan stop bitching and get some facts straight before you wanna bash on your team! GO RAIDERS ☠️

  15. Raiders got three starters from the draft which is good in any year. Left tackle Miller. Arden Key and Mo Hurst. All round one talents. Marcel Ateman will be red zone target. UDFA kicker from Florida may start as well. Sign Novorro Bowman and with the redone secondary you are good to go. Look for a couple of running backs to sign as UDFA. Would have liked a RB in the draft. High risk/high reward draft. Hurst’s heart issue is most likely “Supraventricular tachycardia” or SVT. Not terribly dangerous and fairly easily treated…

  16. Who thought the rams were going to b good last yr….have faith….we have the best coaching staff in football….hands down…trust the process…real raider fans know what’s up…..this yr is gonna b awesome…..raider nation baby

  17. My two cents worth, Miller is not sexy pick but we all know what happened last two years when Carr got hurt. So, I will give it a Solid A, hopes he turn out be our LT of the future for a long time. Then on PJ, Turner, Key, Nelson And Mo Hurst, all good picks, they will all produce, some better than the others. Every expert got an opinion, but each team has their own personal Dept which they stick by and should cause they spend millions of dollars on these departments.
ESPN or NFL Network guys do their due diligence but they so hype up their mock drafts that most fans feel like they have become experts as well. So, sit back and enjoy or apply to your local NFL team and see if they even let you in the door!

  18. Would it be possible to get author’s to attach their names to their articles?

  19. Well we have 4.956$ in cap space and Bowman market value is 4.9$ according to spotrac….it will get done…or we working on a trade.

  20. I agree we really should have grabbed a RB, Trash Mode and our 2 rb, and the guy we picked up…all 4 of these are gonna give us one weak RB committee..it is sad we didn’t keep Murray. He was consistent, and best of all could catch clutch passes all day long.
