Tom Brady, Raiders Might Have a Complicated Decision Coming in Round 2 of the Draft

It was becoming clear in the days leading up to the draft that Shedeur Sanders might fall to the second round of the draft and that’s the way it played out on Thursday night.

The Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders all passed over Shedeur in the first round, and all three teams will be picking again in the first half of the second round.

The Browns control two of the first four picks in the second round and should probably be considered the favorite to take Shedeur with one of those picks.

But the Raiders have the fifth pick in the second round and there’s a chance Deion Sanders would prefer his son to be drafted by the Raiders. If that’s the case, the elder Sanders could easily make a phone call to Tom Brady and make a case for Shedeur.

Even if ‘Coach Prime’ doesn’t meddle in Shedeur’s draft destination tomorrow, one would think there is going to be a certain amount pressure on Brady to take Shedeur.

Not only is Shedeur a member of Brady’s brand, but it would also create an awkward moment for Brady to pass on Shedeur twice given his relationship with Deion and the statements Brady’s brands have made about Shedeur in the past.

BRADY on X (formerly Twitter): “”Shedeur Sanders embodies everything we look for in a BRADY™ athlete. His character and values align perfectly with our brand. Not only is he an exceptional football player and quarterback but he is one of the most influential players of his generation” – @TomBrady pic.twitter.com/LYJ78zQ2AY / X”

Obviously, business opportunities outside of the team should stay separate from Brady’s role as minority owner of the Raiders, but there is a human element to the draft, as well.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Shedeur’s story plays out on Friday and it’s possible he doesn’t prefer to go to the Raiders with Geno Smith now in the building. There hasn’t been a lot of reporting on how the decision makers in Las Vegas feel about Shedeur, though it was abundantly clear going into Thursday night that the Raiders weren’t expected to take him with the no. 6 pick.

But if Tom Brady and company have a first or second round grade on Shedeur going into tomorrow night, it’s hard to imagine they would pass over him again if he’s on the board when the Raiders are on the clock in round 2.

  1. I’m not so sure Cleveland takes a quarterback when they now have 2 first round picks for next year.

Then again they got 2 of the next 4 picks so gambling is nothing at this point
