Prior to the Raiders announcement that fans would not be attending games this year, team owner Mark Davis said he would not be attending games if fans could not attend.
On Monday afternoon, Davis doubled down on his statement and confirmed that he’ll be watching Raider games from home in 2020.
“I will not being going to games this season at home. I don’t believe I will be going on the road as well,” Davis told Vinny Bonsignore on Raiders Radio Network 920 AM.
According to TicketIQ.com, the estimated ticket market value for the Raiders would have been more than $570 million. And leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Raiders had been one of the hottest tickets on the secondary market. Now their owner won’t even be in attendance.
The question going forward is whether or not the NFL will be able to hold a season together through January. What will happen if/when NFL locker rooms have a coronavirus breakout?
Considering the money on the line, don’t expect the league to succumb to the virus easily. The loss of ticket sale revenue was bad enough… albeit for teams like the Chargers, a stadium without fans isn’t any kind of new problem to have to deal with.
