After a 2-5 start to the season and the Raiders playing as bad as they ever have, some are starting to wonder if 74-year-old Pete Carroll is the right head coach to spearhead an inevitable rebuild.
Carroll was brought to Las Vegas to change the culture and, so far, the Raiders don’t look any different than they did under Josh McDaniels or Antonio Pierce. If anything, they look worse.
After firing McDaniels and Pierce so quickly, it’s unlikely that Mark Davis would want to give up on Carroll after one season and on Thursday, the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vinny Bonsignore said the Raiders’ owner is going to take a patient approach with Carroll and the decision makers in the building.
“[Mark Davis has] faith in them to get this thing on the right path,” Bonsignore said of the Raiders owner on Carroll and Spytek on Raider Nation Radio’s Morning Tailgate.
“Has it happened yet? No. Two in five screams loudly of that, but that doesn’t mean you just tear it up and start all over again. That’s not going to get them to where they want to get to any quicker. [Davis] has faith in the decision makers. He’s going to stick with it. He wants to see progress, obviously,” Bonsignore continued.
“But in his mind, now is definitely not the time to start all over again. They’ve tried that. They’ve done that many times, multiple times. Just count how many different head coaches that have been here with the Raiders and general managers that have been here with the Raiders. Just in our time covering them since they got here in 2020, it’s way too many and so that’s not the course of action.”
Ther Raiders may keep Carroll after the season, but if Chip Kelly doesn’t start figuring things out on offense, it would be borderline sabotage to bring him back in 2026.
It’s only October, but it feels like this is going to be Kelly’s first and final year in Las Vegas.
At a reported $6 million per year, Kelly’s buyout would be a bitter check for Davis to write, but the cost of keeping him might be even worse.
If Kelly is looking for any advice, former Raiders’ great Lincoln Kennedy would like to see him throw away the play book and start over.
“This team doesn’t have the ability to come back and stay toe to toe with most offenses in the league right now. So totally blow up everything this bye week. Go with a different offense,” Kennedy said on the Locked on Raiders Squad Show podcast.
“Put Geno under center, put a traditional tight end and take your other tight end and put them in the backfield as a fullback and you do a mimic of an eye formation, do a mimic of an eye formation and run straight downhill right at these opposing teams that you are facing,” Kennedy continued. “What this is going to do is it’s going to say, ‘I’m relying on you to get it done’ and that’s exactly what these guys in the front need.”
“[They need] to stand up. I don’t care if it’s JPJ. I don’t care who’s out there. These guys need to stand up for themselves and defend themselves because there’s no reason to go from shotgun on the three-yard line and throw a d— tackle eligible. So that’s all I got to say about that.”

The best thing for Raider Nation would be NEW OWNERSHIP! Davis has been nothing but disasterous, bad decision after bad decision, for 20+ years. For the sake of the fans, sell the team.
Throw away, hyperbolic, worthless comment. You know as well as I do Davis no way, no how is going to sell this cash cow. So let’s live the real world shall we? Davis is the owner of The Las Vegas Raiders and will be for the foreseeable future.
The real question: is this staff or a close facsimile to this current staff, capable of improving this franchise’s performance on the field in the next 2 seasons?
Unless they id a franchise QB and vastly improve the trenches, my answer is no.
Vinny is a paid shill. You notice Mark said I pay people to do their jobs… like Tom Telesco?
Mark is without a doubt the dumbest fudge in this league. Hue goes 8-8, makes the trade for Palmer then Mark fires him when all we need is an DC. Then Reggie scapegoats Carson Palmer for his screwups & we endure more losing. Mark finally gets his man crush back, who luckily fired Reggie. Year 3 of Gruden we get a playoff team yet Mark doesn’t back him after the hit job or stand by Rich/Mayock who lost a star WR. Now what did Mayock say after getting canned. “Well all the stuff that happened, but we made the playoffs and we’re one score away from the AFC Champions. The owner went in another direction I respect that.”
Mark hires the Patriot rejects to try & woo Tom Brady. That blows up in his face but AP bails him out & gives him one of 2 wins against KC and yet won’t keep the GM cuz Brady didn’t hire him & Mark says “drafting isn’t everything to being a GM.”
Only Mark can be so dumb to make the decision to have a former player run the team & only do it part time. And yet he’s gotta have every one around him, including Vinny B, JT the Richard, tell him how great he is. This idiot has an ego over WNBA titles…and I’m still waiting for Mark to ask an actual question
You forgot to mention that he practically gifted part ownership to Brady. And in return he gets this crap product on the field! Actually worse than last season. Something I didn’t think possible?!
The Yankees George Steinbrenner was an honorable man and at a certain point he knew he had to get out of the way as to not ruin the the legacy and history of the Yankees. At some point the great Steinbrenner realized the revelation that he was in the way of progress and success. So this is what he did, he resigned from and got out of the kitchen of Yankee Baseball and Business Operations. The Yankees continued to win and enjoy success, he still owned the team and everyone was happy in Yankee Empire. If the Raiders have any legacy left to salvage or even more importantly any future that anyone would even want to work for, THIS IS WHAT MARK DAVIS MUST DO, resign. Resign as the result of the Raiders ruined legacy and door mat statuses as the most losing team in the NFL since he inherited this team.
Mark Davis must step down if he has any honor, any honesty with regard to the disaster for which he is responsible for. Mark Davis must resign and he should focus on what he is best at Women’s basketball. Mark Davis is simply not a football man and he never will be one like his great father Ibrahim Davis, a.k.a. Al Davis.
I call on all artists to create symbols of your work, peaceful and creative, for which to call upon Mark Davis to do the honorable thing like Steinbrenner and resign. (I envision a paper bag to place over your face with eye holes cut out, to disguise your disgrace of this team, with Mark Davis bangs on them.)
This article repeats the same false narrative Mark Davis put out there before he fired: “A.P.” and Jack Del Rio and it is just the regurgitated spin of a perpetual loser. Mark Davis has no patience and he tears down whatever we start to build, he has already fired those who had the most: history, loyalty and loved this team the most. He only knows how to tear down as evident of the destruction of the raiders with its status as a non competitive and irrelevant team, of not just football but all of sports in general. Yet Davis does not know how to construct, forget his words his actions speak louder than his words, his demolitions have left this team in disgrace and this is the condition of the RN because of him. He will scape goat Carrol by firing him like all the other people he has fired, his words have no credibility or validity in all of football period.
The jury is in on Mark Davis the raiders have lost seven out of ten games since he became majority owner of the general partner. No team in the NFL has lost more games since he took over and what does he do? What has Mark Davis ever done besides fire people and destroy the RN. He has taken the legacy of the Raiders as team among the greatest in NFL history to those who are the worst in NFL history. There is no one left you can point to “Marky Chat Bots,” he has fired everyone. No, Mark Davis must walk the RN’s allegorical and fictional plank because he alone is responsible in this bottom line business. I give him credit for this is and that is when he took responsibility for the failure of Derek Carr’s career and apologized to him. Nothing has changed and by his own admission, as he took responsibility then he is still responsible now as this team wallows in the ruins of disgrace and defeat.
So I ask you Mark Davis apologists and chat bots, WHAT COACH, WHAT GM, WHAT FREE AGENT, in their right mind, would want to work for Mark Davis’ team? Listen, there are no good jobs with for Mark Davis unless you’re Tom Brady, and what does he do for us other than collect mail? No, there is only one way to remove the Mark Davis curse and this is for Mark Davis to resign from any decision making in football operations or sell. Mark has done nothing for the legacy of his great father Ibrahim Davis, RIP. Mark is not a bad person, I wish him well, he is just out of his element and capabilities as the most losing owner in the NFL period. BOYCOTT! BOYCOTT these Mark Davis apologists false narratives and spin. BOYCOTT until Mark Davis resigns from any decision making process in football operations, where he does not know anything but failure and fielding teams which are not even competitive. There is only one way to reverse the curse, only one way out of these ruins, call upon Davis to resign!
