According to his verified Instagram account, Raiders rookie running back Josh Jacobs underwent surgery Wednesday (Christmas day) on what appeared to be his lower leg.
Jacobs posted the video in the evening and it appears the surgery wasn’t one he had been planning to have. He didn’t offer details or an explanation, only adding that it was the “fastest surgery ever.”
The fact that it was a rushed surgery might suggest it was minor (and he is hoping to return) or that it was something that needed immediate attention – maybe an infection? Whatever the case, it looks as though the procedure went well and once again the best source for Jacobs’ health information is Jacobs himself.
If Jacobs cannot play on Sunday, DeAndre Washington will again be the featured back and probably stands to have a significant role even if Jacobs is on the active roster. With a fractured shoulder, and now an apparent lower leg issue, the 2019 season can’t end soon enough to rest the soon-to-be Offensive Rookie of the Year – although the odds on the award are getting closer between Jacobs and first-overall pick Kyler Murray.
Despite playing through a significant injury and missing two games, Jacobs has 1,150 rushing yards on the season and is averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Murray has thrown 18 touchdowns and has a quarterback rating of 87.9.
Could it come down to the final game of the year?
