Report: Helmet AB Wants To Wear Wasn’t Discontinued until 2011

Because of a loophole in the NFL rule, look for Antonio Brown to be back in his familiar helmet in 2019.

Brown hit social media on Tuesday looking for a Schutt Air Advantage helmet that was produced in 2010 or later – and there’s a good chance he’ll find a few. Even though the NFL wasn’t using the Air Advantage in 2010, Schutt was apparently still making them and if AB can find one, it looks like the league will let him wear it in 2019.

If not for the fact that Schutt stopped producing the Air Advantage in 2011, it’s possible that Brown could have been set for years under the rule as it is written. But since 2011 was the final year for the helmet, it probably means that AB can only kick the can down the road for another couple years at most.

It will definitely bde interesting to see how it plays out.

On a separate note, it’s fair to wonder why Brown’s agent isn’t the one traveling the lower 48 right now looking for the helmet that AB wants to wear. It would make a whole lot more sense to go about the matter privately, but as is usually the case with AB, these kind of things tend to unfold publicly.
