In recent months, the Las Vegas Review-Journal has been reporting on some of Antonio Pierce’s legal matters stemming from a couple of car dealerships he was associated with prior to becoming head coach of the Raiders.
On Thursday, one of those reports shed a little light on Pierce’s head-coaching salary while under contract with the Raiders.
It had been rumored the Raiders didn’t commit to Pierce beyond two years and 2025 would have been the final year of his head-coaching contract in Las Vegas. Pierce didn’t have an extensive coaching resume before being hired by the Raiders and there was some speculation that his contract wasn’t as lucrative as some other first-time coaches in the league.
Those reports were apparently accurate.
In the Review-Journal’s report, Mick Akers shared details listed in court documents from a bankruptcy case that had been filed against Pierce and his wife – a case that was dismissed due to a settlement in April.
“An expense report filed in July noted that Pierce was making about $583,000 per month from the Raiders at the time, according to court documents,” Akers reported on Thursday.
“The Pierce’s latest bank statements from November to March filed with the court showed varying amounts paid to the coach by the Raiders. He was paid $358,954 in November, $285,756 in December, $204,385 in January, $201,463 in February and $100,912 in March.”
Just doing the math on the expense reported reportedly filed in July, Pierce would have made $6,996,000 million in his first season as head coach in Vegas if he made $583k per month.
The highest paid head coaches in the NFL are making upwards of $20 million per year and several reports have stated that Ben Johnson is set to make roughly $13 million per year with the Chicago Bears.
If reports are accurate, the Raiders made a relatively modest investment in Pierce after removing the interim label from his job title in January of last year.
Not a lot is known about Pete Carroll’s contract in Las Vegas, but it is reportedly a three-year deal with a club option for a fourth year.
Carroll might not be getting $13 million per year like Johnson, but his coaching resume was superior to everyone in this year’s head-coaching hiring cycle.

He was not Mark Davis choice Davis did not get his choice of top level coaches maybe because he waited too long to interview them. Pierce wanted a HC job but he had to know that Davis did not want him.
$7mil for last season plus the remaining year’s salary, for the team’s performance, pure hwy robbery! Sign me up!
