Report: “Keep an Eye” on the Raiders and Wide Receiver Robby Anderson

Everyone knows the Raiders are planning to overhaul their receiver group in the offseason, but it’s also not a secret that free agent options are going to be limited in the months ahead.

One name that has been linked to the Raiders before now is Jets wide receiver Robby Anderson and his name came up again on Thursday as a player the Raiders are likely to pursue in free agency.

“[Robby Anderson] is a deep threat. That will always get you paid on the market,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo said of the soon-to-be-free agent wide receiver. “I would say keep an eye on the Oakland Raiders for him.”

Regardless of where Anderson ends up (the Jets reportedly want him back), the price tag isn’t going to be cheap.

The list of wide receiver in this year’s free agency class isn’t great, especially since A.J. is expected to remain in Cincinnati. The other big name that could hit free agency is Amari Cooper, but he wants to stay in Dallas and the Cowboys can’t afford to let him walk. Also, there’s no chance Cooper or Jon Gruden are interested in a reunion. There are reasons why that dynamic didn’t work and while the bridge might not be burned, it is in considerable need of structural repair.

For what it’s worth, Emmanuel Sanders and Breshad Perriman might also be interesting options – and both would come cheaper than Anderson. Sanders can still run a little and is a reliable route runner. Perriman is speedster who once ran a sub 4.3 forty-yard dash.

None of the options seem to be extraordinary (unless you happen to really like Anderson’s upside) and that’s just another reason why the Raiders are all but certain to grab a top wide receiver the draft. Other than Joe Burrow to be picked first overall, the next safest bet in the draft is that the Raiders will take a wide receiver in the first round.

The only question is… which one?

  1. Check out Zack moss from Utah,& Malcom Perry from navy both of them is a multiple deluxe packages both play multiple positions! Those is players with key elements that raiders can use & I believe can b productive with!!! And try deshone kizer out he’s a Patrick mahomes type of player and we can use all three of those players because they play 2-3 positions so that’ll help in so many ways!!!!!

  2. I doubt very much if AJ Green will return to the Bengals. He was injured for two straight years and I don’t think the Bengals management is up for investing in him again. I mean he didn’t play at all last year and they paid him all that money. He is the receiver the Raiders should try to sign.

  3. No way dallas can afford coop if they pay dak …and Anderson is good but not worth 10 mil I say give em 8 mil a year 3 year deal…if not draft Higgins or mimz …for a redzone threat and lamb or jeudy for speed and seperation

  4. If the Raiders sign Robby Anderson, the Jets are guaranteed to take a WR one pick in front of the Raiders in the draft (Jets draft at 11, Raiders at 12). The Cardinals are virtually a lock to take CeeDee Lamb at pick 8. I’d much rather have Jerry Jeudy at pick 12 than sign Anderson, only to watch the Jets draft Jeudy at 11. Next best option is Henry Ruggs, and he is nowhere near as NFL ready as Jeudy in terms of route running.

  5. Anderson to the raiders is 99% a done deal from what I’m hearing. That 0% state income tax in Nevada was the clincher.

  6. Perriman hopefully signs with Eagles and also Derrick Henry as well.
Draft DBs early to sure up pass coverage and also LB help as well.
I like a few WRs out of the FCS late round picks that can fly around. Phoenix Sproles from NDSU is target but believe he’s staying another year in school.
However right pieces the Eagles will be very dangerous and immediate SB contender.

  7. Robby Anderson is not the answer!
    He’s not a true #1 Receiver!!!
We can get one easily in the draft for much cheaper and and for 5 years! Save that Cap money to spend on DEFENSE!!! LITTLETON, CHRIS KONES, DANTE FOWLER. Spend every last dime on two of them!!!!!
    RAIDERS!!!!!!!
