Report Names 4 Teams Who Pursued Maxx Crosby after Botched Deal with Baltimore

The Raiders and Maxx Crosby were left in a difficult situation after the Ravens backed out of their agreement to trade for Crosby in March, but the team and player weren’t without options.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Rams remained interested in Crosby and were the team with the strongest offer once the Ravens backed out.

“Sources told NFL Network that Los Angeles pursued Crosby shortly after his trade from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens fell through because of a failed physical,” Rapoport reported on Sunday.

“Other teams were interested, but the Rams, with their propensity to swing big, were the strongest club pushing for a deal, according to sources. But before there could be anything official, Crosby let it be known to anyone interested that he did not want to be traded. He wanted to remain with the Raiders, and he let his own organization know as well.”

The Rams have since traded for Myles Garrett, but according to Rapoport, the Eagles, Cowboys and 49ers were among the teams hoping to get Crosby at a bargain price after the deal fell through with Baltimore.

From a pass rushing standpoint, not much has changed with the Eagles, Cowboys and 49ers since March, so there’s a good chance all three teams will circle back around the trade deadline to see if the Raiders have any interest in trading their star defensive player.

Cowboys the team to watch if the Raiders consider trading Crosby again?

It was reported in March that the Cowboys’ team doctor was one of the doctors the Ravens consulted with prior to backing out of the Crosby deal, but Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones said in March he wouldn’t rule out the Cowboys returning to the trade table down the road.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler at the time, the Cowboys were devastated when they couldn’t pull off a deal for Crosby.

“The Raiders had two teams willing to swing for the fence here; the Cowboys and the Ravens,” Fowler said on ESPN’s SportsCenter in March.

“The Ravens were willing to give up the two first-round picks, the Cowboys simply were not and I was told the Cowboys were low key devastated. They really wanted Maxx Crosby. They were eyeing him for months, but they just had a tipping point. It was a first-round pick and a second-round pick. They tried to involve a veteran player or two to sweeten the deal. The Raiders didn’t want to do that. They simply wanted the youth and the draft picks.”

In Dallas, all trades go through Jones, who will turn 84 years old next month. Jones has acknowledged that he doesn’t have a lot of time to win another Super Bowl and said another championship is what he wants before he is no longer around.

If the Cowboys are in playoff contention in early November and the Raiders are not, don’t be surprised if it’s the Cowboys who make the strongest push to pry Crosby away from the Raiders ahead of the November 10 trade deadline.
