Report: Reggie Nelson Visiting Raiders, Deal Expected

The Raiders desperately need help at safety and help may be on the way today in the form of former Bengals’ safety Reggie Nelson.

Nelson reportedly arrived in Oakland last night and will continue to meet with the team on Tuesday. According to John Middlekauff on Monday, the Raiders were confident something will happen, and Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle believes that pending a physical, a deal is likely to be reached.

Nelson is 32 years-old, but tied for the league lead in interceptions (8) in 2015. The buzz around Nelson in free agency has been surprisingly quiet, but he is considered by many to be the top available free agent still on the market.

Stay tuned.

  1. Good stop gap! Now let’s get Darron Lee, so he can play that hybrid SS / ILB position, and let Reggie be that mentor for a year or two! Lets keep building through the draft! Great work RM and Coaches!!! Lets go Raider Nation!!!

  2. Signing him allows draft strategy this year to change. Then go draft athletic linebackers that can cover and one of those two top running backs, if they are the best on the board when we are up. Do it.

  3. Sign him. We need the depth. I still think we need to address the position in this years draft as there are a few good ones in this draft. Thompson from Boise St in RD 2 or a LB/FS hybrid like USC’s Cravens might be there in Rd 2 as well. Either way, sign Nelson to provide depth and possible a mentor to some new draftees!!

  4. Does not anybody remember Reggie critical penalty vs. Denver in the playoffs last year.or how he abused after the play was over.this guy is a loser.period.
