It was reported on Wednesday that D.K. Metcalf has requested a trade from the Seattle Seahawks, and many believe the Raiders are a team that will be interested.
Prior to the news of Metcalf’s request, it was rumored that the Raiders were keeping an eye on Metcalf’s situation in Seattle, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport mentioned Las Vegas as a viable option for the 27-year-old wide receiver on Wednesday evening.
On Thursday, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported the Seahawks are looking for a first-round pick and a third-round pick for Metcalf, and there’s a good chance they are aren’t going to get anywhere near a return like that for him. Still, it’s standard practice in potential trade situations to throw out an astronomical asking price and see where conversations go from there.
League insider Josina Anderson reported that there is a team willing to give “at least” a third-round pick for Metcalf and that might be a cost the Raiders would be willing to pay. Thanks to the Davante Adams trade, the Raiders have two third-round picks, and that would probably be a pick they would be willing to give up for Metcalf.
It’s worth keeping in mind that whoever trades for Metcalf will also have to pay him. Metcalf is seeking a new deal and Russini reported he is looking for upwards of $30 million per year – which is a big part of the reason why the Seahawks are willing to listen to offers for him in the first place.
The Athletic’s Vic Tafur talked this week about the Raiders finding a true ‘x’ receiver and without question, Metcalf would fit that description.
“I think the new regime does not really view Jakobi Meyers as the number one guy. I think that they like him, but I think they clearly want a number one guy, a guy who can make the big plays, stretch the field a little bit,” Tafur said on the Just Win podcast. “I think there are a lot of guys in the draft this year who can do that and there are some guys that are in free agency, so I think that will be a big thing they hit on is number one receiver.”
For now, the Seahawks’ asking for Metcalf is too high for anyone to take them seriously, but his situation will be one to watch as Seattle comes to a realization no one is going to give up a first and third-round pick for the opportunity to pay Metcalf $30 million per year.

Seahawks are going to want the 6th pick in this draft and at least another pick on top of that.
No thanks.
